Ford fuel leak recall overview:

  • Who: Ford is recalling 33,576 of its 2020-2022 Escape and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport vehicles.
  • Why: The recall is due to a potential fuel leak that can lead to a fire hazard.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

Ford is recalling more than 33,000 Escape and Bronco Sport vehicles due to a fuel leak risk that could result in fire. The recall affects specific models that were incorrectly repaired under earlier recalls.

This March 14 recall involves 2020-2022 Ford Escape models and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport models equipped with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine.

The fuel injector in these engines can crack and leak fuel within the engine compartment, posing a fire risk if it comes into contact with hot engine or exhaust components.

Ford has recalled these vehicles for this problem before; in the recall notice, the automaker acknowledges the repairs conducted under previous recalls were performed incorrectly.

Ford recall issues software update to fix fuel leak

Ford’s recall notice indicates that the remedy involves updating the powertrain control module (PCM) software at no cost to the vehicle owners. The company plans to notify dealers by April 24 and will send out owner notification letters by May 1.

Owners of the affected vehicles are encouraged to return to their local Ford dealerships to have the PCM software updated.

This action is crucial to prevent any potential fire hazards associated with the fuel leak.

Ford says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

  1. Taina Cruz says:

Turned in my bronco sport last month because it completely shut down, overheating, every warning light came on. The repairs were frequent so I just gave up on it. I got it brand new 0 miles on it. I had too many issues and could only take to dealership to get things fixed. I kept complaining about a weird noise and they kept giving run around. Had a friend look at it and he said may be fuel injector. Today I received a letter that my bronco has a fuel injector recall. This is not the first recall.
