Lawyers investigate gadolinium MRI poisoning in after Gena Norris, wife of martial artist and movie star Chuck Norris, filed a gadolinium deposition lawsuit claiming she was poisoned from the use of the chemical in an MRI.
Last year, Gena Norris made claims in a gadolinium deposit lawsuit that she had a severe, adverse reaction to gadolinium, which was used during an MRI she had years ago.
Gadolinium is a heavy metal that is commonly injected into a patient’s veins before an MRI and is used to increase visual contrast, making internal organs more visible on the MRI.
This is achieved because gadolinium’s magnetic properties enhnace the images, enabling doctors to diagnose a range of conditions and problems. The metal is used because it was long believed to exit a patient’s system mere hours after the MRI is performed.
However, patients like Norris argue that the metal does not leave the patient’s system shortly after the procedure, and can remain in a person’s system for years after the MRI. Norris and others say that gadolinium is poisonous, and can cause a range of serious side effects.
Norris says that her symptoms developed slowly, over the course of several years. She claims doctors were unable to diagnose her symptoms of tissue thickening, mind fog and burning sensations in her skin.
According to Norris, she developed symptoms similar to nephrogenic system fibrosis (NSF). NSF is the only condition that is known to be linked with gadolinium deposition, and historically, is mostly associated with patients who have experienced kidney failure and kidney disease.
Norris’ gadolinium deposition lawsuit argues that Norris developed NSF symptoms, though she did not have kidney problems. The gadolinium deposition lawsuit claim that this case shows that gadolinium could have negative effects even in patients with normal kidney function, and could be dangerous to all patients.
Norris’s gadolinium poisoning lawsuit claims that the medical community has not paid enough attention to the effects of gadolinium on the human body. One Dallas-area toxicologist who saw Norris as a patient says that they saw four or five other patients with cases similar to Norris’, and supported Norris’s argument that doctors had not fully investigated the possible dangers associated with gadolinium deposition.
The European Medicines Agency has expressed concern over the practice of using gadolinium as a contrast agent in MRIs, banning certain gadolinium agents.
In contrast, Bayer and GE Healthcare, makers of gadolinium contrast agents, state their disbelief in the claim that gadolinium can cause “clinical symptoms or adverse events.”
Now, given the growing possibility that gadolinium has affected a range of people and could be dangerous to all patients, not just those with kidney problems, lawyers are investigating the possibility of a gadolinium deposition lawsuit.
If you were injected with a gadolinium contrast agent during an MRI and you experienced a range of symptoms even years after the fact, including tissue thickening, brain fog, burning sensations, tremors or weakness, you may have a legal claim. Filing a gadolinium deposition lawsuit could help you gain compensation for physical, emotional or financial injury you suffered.
