Eliquis-Wrongful-DeathA grieving daughter recently filed an Eliquis gastrointestinal bleeding lawsuit after her mother died, alleging that the drug caused serious and eventually fatal complications.

The plaintiff’s late mother, Phyllis P., was an Ohio resident, and was initially prescribed Eliquis after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.

On July 8, 2014, the plaintiff’s mother suffered from serious Eliquis gastrointestinal injuries, leading to her death, according to the lawsuit.

As a result of using the drug, the plaintiff’s mother suffered from fatal Eliquis gastrointestinal bleeding, and her daughter was left to suffer from emotional and economic injuries, including medical and other financial expenses, the lawsuit claims.

After her mother’s tragic death, the plaintiff chose to file an Eliquis gastrointestinal bleeding lawsuit, alleging that Bristol-Myers Squibb, the manufacturer of Eliquis, knew about the serious and even fatal side effects linked with Eliquis and yet failed to warn the public and the medical community.

According to the lawsuit, Bristol-Myers Squibb continued to market their drug as safe and effective despite having significant evidence to the contrary, choosing instead to actively conceal this knowledge from consumers and the medical community.

This Eliquis gastrointestinal bleeding lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including but not limited to defective design, failure to warn, negligence, fraudulent concealment, and wrongful death.

What is Eliquis?

Eliquis is a popular blood thinner drug, and belongs to a relatively new class of drugs known as Factor Xa Inhibitors, a class of drugs that has begun to replace warfarin as the accepted standard.

Unfortunately, Eliquis and others in its class have been linked in a number of studies, complaints, and lawsuits to a series of serious Eliquis side effects, including Eliquis gastrointestinal bleeding complications.

For most patients treated with the drug, Eliquis side effects are mild and go away on their own. These side effects include nausea, easy bruising, and minor bleeding.

Eliquis Gastrointestinal Bleeding

In other, rarer cases, Eliquis side effects may become extreme and even life-threatening. Internal bleeding is a common side effect in blood thinners, since these drugs stop blood clots from forming.

In most cases, blood clots are dangerous, which is why blood thinners are used to treat clotting. However, in situations such as a car accident or emergency surgery, blood clots are one of the body’s only defenses to avoid bleeding too much.

When a patient on a blood thinner is in an accident or emergency surgery, their body can no longer form these life-saving blood clots.

Warfarin and other blood thinners have antidotes to quickly counteract this effect and enable the body to clot again, but Eliquis has no such antidote.

This means that in dangerous internal bleeding emergencies, Eliquis patients may be in much greater danger than those who took another kind of blood thinner drug.

Eliquis Gastrointestinal Bleeding Lawsuits

Though filing an Eliquis lawsuit cannot undo the damage of Eliquis side effects like Eliquis gastrointestinal bleeding, or bring a loved one back to life, it may be able to help compensate for financial expenses incurred by medical bills or lost wages.

If you or someone you know has taken Eliquis or a similar medication and has since suffered from major Eliquis gastrointestinal bleeding side effects, you may be able to file an Eliquis lawsuit.
