Maxi Matic USA Inc. is facing a new class action pressure cooker lawsuit from a Florida woman alleging the Elite Maxi Matic pressure cooker caused her to suffer serious burn injuries.
This class action pressure cooker lawsuit is being filed on behalf of numerous other consumers who allegedly sustained burns from the Elite Max Matic pressure cooker.
Plaintiff Geniva O’Keefe has filed this class action pressure cooker lawsuit alleging she and other consumers experienced severe burns after using the Elite Maxi Matic pressure cooker.
O’Keefe alleges she was given the Elite Maxi Matic pressure cooker from her mother in early 2016 and allegedly sustained injury directly caused by the cooking device.
O’Keefe says she used the Elite Maxi Matic pressure cooker to prepare several meals in the past and had experienced no issues.
However, on April 28, 2016, O’Keefe prepared chicken and dumplings for her family and followed the instructions presented on the Maxi Matic’s label. O’Keefe used the default setting and set the pressure cooker to its default setting to cook for 15 minutes. O’Keefe says she waited another 10 to 15 minutes for the device to depressurize, at which time the instructions stated the device was safe to open.
However, this was reportedly not the case. O’Keefe says scalding hot contents escaped the pressure cooker and spilled all over her and her kitchen. This is because the safety lock did not properly seal, which should have prevented O’Keefe from opening the pressure cooker until it was safe to do so.
Overview of Pressure Cooker Failure
This locking failure has been recently reported by several consumers, many of whom have filed product liability claims after experiencing severe burns from pressure cooker explosions. The locking mechanism reportedly failed to engage, which is supposed to keep the food and hot water safely sealed until the device safely depressurizes.
As a result, numerous consumers says they have sustained serious burn injuries from the steam and contents that spill out of the device. The inside temperature of pressure cookers can get as high as 250 ℉, making direct contact very dangerous to consumers.
According to this class action pressure cooker lawsuit, O’Keefe says she sustained second-and third-degree burns on her arms, legs, and stomach. She allegedly had to undergo emergency treatment and numerous follow up appointments, and is currently contending with significant scarring.
O’Keefe believes other consumers had similar experiences even though they followed the device’s instructions. O’Keefe alleges Maxi Matic’s instructions and warning label are dangerously inadequate and that the device was defective. She claims it should not have been sold to her or the general public.
The company touts itself as a reliable cooking supplies company and that the Elite Maxi Matic pressure cooker was safe to use for cooking purposes. At all times relevant, O’Keefe used the Elite Maxi Matic pressure cooker for its intended purpose and did not receive any warning from the companies.
O’Keefe states she would not have used the Elite Maxi Matic pressure cooker if she had known about the potential failure of the locking mechanism.
This Elite Maxi Matic Pressure Cooker Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-08452, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
