Duda Farm Fresh Foods recall overview:

  • Who: Duda Farm Fresh Foods is recalling 1,587 cases of Marketside Celery Sticks.
  • Why: The recall is due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States, specifically affecting 28 states and Washington, D.C.

Duda Farm Fresh Foods has initiated a recall of its Marketside Celery Sticks due to a possible health risk. The recall involves 1,587 cases of the product, which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

This bacterium can cause severe infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals might experience mild symptoms, but the infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, the recall says.

The recall was announced on April 10 and applies to a specific lot of 4 in/1.6 oz Marketside Celery Sticks with a “best if used by” date of March 23, 2025.

The potential contamination was identified through random sampling conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, which found a positive test result for Listeria in one of the samples.

“Consumers who have this product in their possession, including in their freezer, should not consume and discard the product,” the recall advises.

The affected celery sticks were distributed to Walmart stores across 28 states and Washington, D.C., and can be identified by Universal Product Code (UPC) 6 81131 16151 0 and lot code P047650.

Consumers urged to discard potentially contaminated celery

The recall notice emphasizes that the potentially contaminated celery sticks are no longer available in stores, as they are past their expiration date. However, there is concern that consumers may have stored the product in their freezers for future use.

“The potential for contamination was discovered during random sampling by the Georgia Department of Agriculture,” the recall states. The advisory does not extend to any other products from the Marketside or Duda Farm Fresh Foods brands.

The company advises consumers who have purchased the affected celery sticks to dispose of them immediately to avoid any health risks.

Duda Farm Fresh Foods reports that, to date, no illnesses have been linked to the recalled celery sticks. The company is not currently facing any legal actions related to the recall, but similar situations have sometimes led to class action lawsuits, which are monitored closely by Top Class Actions.

In January, Braga Fresh recalled one lot of its broccoli florets sold in Walmarts in 20 states, over concerns they may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
