Disney Travel Insurance May Include a Kickback for the CompanyConsumers who purchased Disney travel insurance for a Disney cruise may have a legal claim based on allegations that cruise companies are receiving an undisclosed kickback from these insurance plans.

Any number of unexpected events can throw a monkeywrench in travelers’ cruise plans. Inclement weather can cut the cruise short, family emergencies can cancel a trip last minute, and injuries or illness can require medical attention. Unfortunately, these unexpected events are often associated with additional costs.

Luckily, travel insurance is available to protect consumers from these unexpected costs. Disney travel insurance offers basic coverage for a variety of costs potentially associated with a cruise including non-refundable deposits, medical treatment, repatriation, missed boat, shortened vacation time, and emergency assistance. This coverage ensures that, if something unexpected happens, consumers will be protected.

When purchasing a ticket online for a Disney cruise, consumers have the option to purchase Disney travel insurance at the same time. The Disney travel insurance plans include three separate products bundled into one package:

  1. Cancellation Fee Waivers, available through the cruise company
  2. Travel Insurance Policies, offered through insurance companies including Transamerica and Nationstar
  3. Travel Assistance, offered by On Call International Inc.

Due to the coverage offered by travel insurance packages and the marketing that promotes them, reasonable consumers may believe that the packages offered by cruise companies are a good deal. The package of Disney travel insurance is reportedly marketed to consumers to induce them into believing that the price of the package is comprised of a fee to each of the three providers. In reality, the price for the package may not actually be the best deal.

But consumer advocates are concerned that Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and Disney travel insurance plans may give the companies an undisclosed kickback for each plan sold. This kickback is allegedly included in the consumer price for a Disney travel insurance bundle, meaning that consumers are paying for undisclosed kickbacks received by cruise companies.

Deceptive marketing strategies may have been used to conceal the undisclosed kickback. Potential deceptive marketing strategies used to promote Disney travel insurance may include:

  • Marketing and selling Disney travel insurance in conjunction with non-insurance products without identifying the price of each individual product.
  • Utilizing opt-out marketing tactics.
  • Marketing and selling Disney travel insurance which would never result in a payment of any claim under the policy.

These deceptive strategies may be unlawful, entitling affected consumers to compensation under law. Qualified attorneys are investigating the issue to see if consumer have a legal claim. Consumers who qualify for this investigation include those who purchased a Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, or Disney Cruise line ticket online after 2014 and purchased cruise insurance at the same time.

Should attorneys discover that cruise companies are in violation of business laws, eligible consumers may be able to file a travel insurance lawsuit. A Disney travel insurance lawsuit could help affected consumers recover damages for any violations of business and consumer protection laws.
