Patients getting treatment for type-2 diabetes might not know that they could face an Actos bladder cancer risk.
An Actos lawsuit investigation is currently looking for those people who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer but may not have been informed about the Actos bladder cancer risk. After taking the popular diabetes drug, patients might receive a diagnosis of bladder cancer. Those patients might not realize but there could be a connection between their use of the drug and Actos bladder cancer risk.
The type-2 diabetes medication Actos has been linked to the development of bladder cancer in multiple different studies. The manufacturer of Actos, Takeda, has faced thousands of lawsuits from plaintiffs who allege that they were never informed about the Actos bladder cancer risk until it was too late. In some of these cases, the patients taking the medication passed away due to the development of bladder cancer.
The first warning from the FDA came in June of 2011, sharing that Actos bladder cancer risk could affect those patients who have been taking the medication for longer than a year. Actos bladder cancer warnings were added to the label in August of 2011 due to the results of a ten-year study, which was at the five-year mark at that point in time.
The five-year mark analysis of results indicated that there was a higher risk of developing bladder cancer when people were taking it a high dosage and the longer that a person took the drug.
In 2016, the Food and Drug Administration in the United States reported on the Actos bladder cancer risk facing patients, restating its previous warning and updating the Actos label with new information from more recent studies.
A 2015 Actos bladder cancer risk settlement addressed thousands of different bladder cancer lawsuits for a total of $2.4 billion. According to many of the bladder cancer lawsuits, Takeda was aware of the risk of developing bladder cancer from human clinical trials as well as animal studies.
At the time of the settlement, there were more than 9,000 Actos bladder cancer risk lawsuits filed by patients and surviving family members who alleged that the drug manufacturer did not do enough to warn them about the dangers of developing bladder cancer.
If the patient is not even aware of the possibility of developing bladder cancer, they might not understand the warning signs to look out for and could be at advanced stages of the disease before they are able to get appropriate treatment and help.
Those who lost their loved ones due to this diabetes medication could have grounds to pursue a lawsuit. You could be entitled to file an Actos bladder cancer risk lawsuit if you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer but was never informed about the possible dangers of taking this drug.
