pancreatic cancerIn recent diabetic news, Onglyza, a popular diabetes medication, has been linked with an increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer, as well as other serious side effects.

The reports of this drug for treating diabetes have been significant enough that the FDA has been forced into action.

The federal agency has warned Onglyza drug makers to make the risk of pancreatic cancer known on their warning labels. Some consumers are not satisfied with this response alone and have begun filing Onglyza lawsuits.

Onglyza Background

Onglyza (saxagliptin) is a diabetes drug manufactured by AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb, and was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009.

Onglyza was created for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and is part of a new class of diabetes drugs known as incretin mimetics.

Incretin mimetics mimic the creation of the body’s natural incretin hormones, which in turn release insulin and help control a diabetic patient’s blood sugar level. The regulation of blood sugar levels for diabetes patients is essential.

One of Onglyza’s most attractive features for many diabetes patients is that it does not lead to weight gain, unlike most other diabetes treatments. Since it was first introduced into the market, Onglyza sales have been steadily increasing.

However, reports of diabetes and pancreatic cancer have caused concern over the benefits of the medication.

Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer

According to recent diabetic news reports, however, some doctors are concerned with a potential link between Onglyza and pancreatic cancer, as well as other serious Onglyza side effects like pancreatitis and thyroid cancer. Though these other side effects are also serious, Onglyza pancreatic cancer is considered the most dangerous of these potential complications.

Onglyza pancreatic cancer is hard to detect, and is often not diagnosed until it has already progressed until the later stages of the disease, when it is more difficult to treat and therefore more dangerous.

In these later stages, treatment of Onglyza pancreatic cancer is less effective, and the risk of fatality becomes much higher.

The potential connection between diabetes and pancreatic cancer have been cause for concern in the medical community for some time, and so a diabetes medication that may lead to an increased risk of pancreatic cancer even more has many consumers wary.

Filing an Onglyza Lawsuit

Patients who have taken Onglyza, or a similar diabetes drug, may file Onglyza lawsuits against the drug’s manufacturers for failing to adequately warn the public and the medical community about the risk involved in using these drugs.

Onglyza lawsuits may allege that the drug’s manufacturers either knew or should have known about the increased risk of pancreatic cancer and other side effects associated with Onglyza and failed to relay this diabetic news with patients and the medical community.

If you or someone you know has suffered from heart failure, pancreatitis, cancer, or other serious side effects after using Onglyza, you may be able to take legal action by filing an Onglyza lawsuit.

Filing an Onglyza lawsuit may not fix the damage, but it can help to alleviate the physical, emotional, and financial losses felt as a result of using Onglyza.

In general, Onglyza lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
