YoCrunch yogurt recall overview:

  • Who: Danone U.S. is recalling all flavors and sizes of YoCrunch yogurt products.
  • Why: The recall is due to the potential presence of plastic pieces in the product toppers, posing a choking hazard.
  • Where: The recall is effective nationwide in the United States.

Danone U.S. is recalling all flavors and sizes of its YoCrunch yogurt products nationwide due to potential plastic contamination in their dome toppers.

The recall, announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on July 14, affects a variety of YoCrunch yogurt flavors and sizes, such as Vanilla with Oreo, Vanilla with M&M and Strawberry with Granola. Each product is identified by its unique universal product code (UPC), which consumers can check against the FDA’s full announcement for specific lot expiration dates.

The FDA has reported that the plastic pieces found in the toppers are transparent and may have sharp edges, ranging from 7 mm to 25 mm in length.

“The issue is isolated only to the separately packaged topper and does not impact the separately packaged yogurt,” the FDA clarified in its news release.

Danone is actively working to remove the affected products from retail shelves nationwide.

Consumers advised to check YoCrunch toppers for safety

Danone U.S. is taking steps to address the issue by removing the impacted products from stores and providing guidance to consumers. It has not reported any injuries related to the recall, but the potential for harm has prompted the precautionary measure.

The company is offering refunds to affected consumers. Customers who have purchased the recalled products can contact the YoCrunch Consumer Care Line at 1-877-344-4886 for more information on obtaining a refund or for any other inquiries related to the recall.

Danone U.S. is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In a similar case, Wells Enterprises, also known as Wells Dairy, recently recalled more than 22 varieties of ice cream and frozen yogurt due to the potential presence of plastic in the products.
