  • Why: They claim Crossroads Trading failed to properly secure and safeguard the sensitive information of its customers.

Crossroads Trading faces four class action lawsuits alleging it failed to properly secure and safeguard customers’ sensitive information.

Lead plaintiff Megan Koester claims Crossroads Trading was targeted by a data breach that resulted in the compromise and unlawful access of the personally identifiable information (PII) of its customers.

Koester argues Crossroads Trading collected and maintained the personal information of its customers on the mutual understanding that it would be protected against disclosure.

“Defendant maintained, used and shared the PII in a reckless manner. In particular, the PII was used and transmitted by Defendant in a condition vulnerable to cyberattacks,” Koester said in her lawsuit.

Koester seeks to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of all individuals whose PII was accessed or acquired in the breach.

Koester’s lawsuit is one of four filed over the incident. Plaintiffs Juanita Medina, LaSean Tardd and Sedre Wright each filed separate class actions on behalf of affected employees, customers and other impacted individuals.

Crossroads Trading allegedly failed to implement ‘adequate’ cybersecurity measures

Medina, a former employee, alleges that her Social Security number and other sensitive employment data were exposed.

Tardd emphasizes the breach’s link to a known ransomware group, Qilin, and argues that Crossroads Trading’s allegedly lax cybersecurity practices left more than 60,000 individuals vulnerable.

Meanwhile, Wright claims that Crossroads Trading failed to follow Federal Trade Commission guidelines and industry-standard data protection practices.

“Defendant disregarded the rights of Plaintiff and Class Members by, inter alia, intentionally, willfully, recklessly or negligently failing to take adequate and reasonable measures to ensure its data systems were protected against unauthorized intrusions,” Koester said in her lawsuit.

The lawsuits claim Crossroads Trading is guilty of negligence, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment and violations of the California Consumer Privacy Act and Unfair Competition Law. The plaintiffs are seeking jury trials, injunctive relief and damages.

In 2024, Neiman Marcus Group LLC and its cloud storage vendor, Snowflake Inc., faced a class action lawsuit claiming they mishandled customer information, leading to a major data breach.

Inc., Case No. 3:25-cv-03309-LB; Tardd v. Crossroads Trading Co. Inc., Case No. 4:25-cv-03346; and Wright v. Crossroads Trading Co.
