pressure cooker explosions burns injuryA class action investigation has been started due to reports from consumers who allege their pressure cookers don’t perform as expected.

Owners say they have suffered injuries from these exploding pressure cookers. The causes of these alleged injuries and the cause behind the exploding pressure cookers may be defective product manufacturing or design.

These exploding pressure cookers have caused consumers to suffer second- and third-degree burns as the pressure cooker contents spew onto the victims at temperatures that are boiling hot.

Consumers who have suffered harm from exploding pressure cookers may be eligible to joint a pressure cooker class action investigation. It is open to consumers who have purchased a defective pressure cooker or any other small similar device that failed to work properly and as intended, but instead exploded.

The Elite Bistro 8-Quart electric pressure cooker is at the center of the investigation. Other pressure cookers are also being investigated, including those made by Aldi, Crofton, Cuisinart, Max-Matic, Tristar, Wolfgang Puck and others.

Exploding Pressure Cookers and Other Dangers

Pressure cookers and pressure ovens can be seriously dangerous if they malfunction.

The way in which a pressure cooker functions is by trapping steam within a sealed and closed chamber. In this way, the pressure inside can increase by up to 15 pounds per square inch. Additionally, as the pressure within the closed chamber increases, the temperature also increases to up to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. This is how the food within is rapidly and quickly cooked.

If there is a design defect or malfunction to the device, the high pressure and scorching hot temperatures can explode and cause serious injury and adverse effects to pressure cooker owners.

Exploding Pressure Cookers and Product Litigation

There have been several personal injury lawsuits filed by consumers who have suffered injuries from exploding pressure cookers. Several consumers have suffered from severe burns which resulted from scorching hot foods blasting onto their skin. This resulted from exploding pressure cookers wherein the pressure cooker lid suddenly blows off.

Consumers who have filed lawsuits have alleged that the contents within the pressure cooker exploded even when they had followed correct instructions and opened the lid with the contents within depressurized. Although pressure cookers supposedly create airtight seals, consumers have stated that they became injured when these seals broke prematurely.

Pressure cooker explosions may occur due to faulty valves that allow the pressure to continue building without any release. Exploding pressure cookers have also resulted when “safe lock lids” were supposedly set in place but other safety mechanisms which were to prevent the lid from opening or blowing open did not engage.
