Olympic Rescue It! Resurfacer is advertised as the ultimate solution for severely damaged wood decks and concrete patios. However, consumer complaints are mounting against Olympic Rescue It!, with allegations all over the internet that the deck stain product doesn’t live up to its promises.
What is Olympic Rescue It?
Olympic Rescue It! Resurfacer is a cross between a paint and a stain, which can be applied on either concrete or wood surfaces. The Olympic stain is a 100% acrylic resurfacer that locks down splinters on wood decks but also fills in cracks up to 1/4″ deep. Most importantly it provides a waterproofing protection and claims to provide a textured, slip-resistant finish that is barefoot friendly.
Olympic offers a satisfaction guarantee to customers who purchase and use Rescue It! on a surface that is prepared according to the company’s instructions. Olympic does not provide an amount of time the product is supposed to last. It says that “the lifetime of the product may be limited by the condition of the wood or concrete that is being ‘rescued.’”
Complaints Over Olympic Rescue It!
Olympic Rescue It! promises that instead of having to re-stain your deck every year in order to preserve your wood, acrylic stains – or “resurfacers” as they are sometimes called – their product can provide long-lasting protection that leaves your deck looking brand new for years to come.
While, the hybrid deck stain may cost a bit more than traditional stains, the manufacturer claims that the higher cost is more than offset by the products’ longevity and low-maintenance requirements.
Olympic Rescue It! has been the subject of considerable consumer dissatisfaction expressed on various Internet sites. Recently, there have been reports of the deck stain cracking, chipping, and peeling early on after application and well within the warranty period set by the manufacturer.
Many consumers claim that the Olympic stain does not stay intact on their outside decks. In one example, an individual applied several gallons of Olympic Rescue It! stain to his deck. When the stain failed to hold, he contacted Olympic, who would only reimbursed for the original price of the defective Rescue It! stain and left him with the cost of labor and time to repair his deck from the peeling, chipping and cracking.
Other online Olympic Rescue It! common complaints include:
- Coverage is much less than advertised
- Claims of 10-year life are grossly exaggerated, with some spots failing in less than a year (reviewers claimed they prepared the surface per manufacturer’s specifications)
- Once it starts to crack, and fail, it accelerates wood rot as it lets water into the wood, but doesn’t allow it to dry completely
- When you decide to replace it, because it has failed in some spots, it is impossible to completely remove it

One thought on Consumers Claim Olympic Rescue It Is A Rip-Off
I purchased the Olympic Rescue it for my deck and am having the same problem as everyone else. It is pealing, cracking and it looks a mess. I am beyond frustrated because we followed the directions on the bucket, we used the recommended wash. We spent days on this project and now we have a mess. I would like the company to come forward and make restitution for cleaning up the mess and reapplying something else.
