- Who: A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Conagra Brands Inc.
- Why: The plaintiff claims Conagra falsely advertises its Orville Redenbacher’s Naturals popcorn products as containing only real ingredients.
- Where: The Conagra popcorn class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.
A new class action lawsuit claims Conagra falsely advertises its Orville Redenbacher’s Naturals popcorn products as containing only real ingredients.
Plaintiff Julia Gibson claims Conagra misleads consumers into believing that its Orville Redenbacher’s Naturals popcorn products do not contain any synthetic ingredients, when they actually contain mixed tocopherols, a recognized synthetic preservative.
Gibson argues Conagra makes the allegedly false claims to capitalize on consumers’ preference for natural foods that do not contain artificial ingredients.
“Defendant’s labeling and advertising puts forth a straightforward, material message: the Products contain only natural ingredients and no synthetic ingredients,” the Conagra popcorn class action lawsuit states.
Gibson wants to represent a nationwide class and New York subclass of consumers who purchased Conagra’s Orville Redenbacher’s Naturals popcorn products during the maximum period of time permitted by law.
She claims Conagra is guilty of breach of express warranty and violating New York’s General Business Law.
Conagra profited ‘enormously’ from false advertising, class action claims
Gibson claims Conagra has profited “enormously” from the allegedly false advertising of its Orville Redenbacher’s Naturals popcorn products.
“The purpose of this action is to require Defendant to change its labeling claims and to provide consumers with monetary relief for its deceptive and misleading product claims,” the Conagra popcorn class action states.
Gibson demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of compensatory, statutory and punitive damages for herself and all class members.
In 2024, a group of consumers filed a class action against Smartfoods and PepsiCo, alleging the companies falsely advertised that their Smartfood White Cheddar Popcorn and Smartfood Movie Theater Butter Popcorn products contain “No Artificial Flavors” and “No Artificial Preservatives” when they actually do.

Orville redenbockers popcorn sucks . It contains many unpopped kernels and not what it used to be. It’s very expensive to get trash . I’ve been lucky not to have broken a tooth on subpar product
Please add me, thanks!
Years ago this natural popcorn was ok. Only bought OR Natural popcorn because it was “natural”. Preservatives are a problem for the digestive system. This explains a lot!
