Coenzyme 10 Supplements Target of Class Action Lawsuit Investigation
By Robert J. Boumis
Coenzyme 10 (CoQ10) is a blockbuster herbal supplement that may slow the aging process and improve recovery time from exercise. However, some particular generic brands of CoQ10 have made claims that may not stand up to laboratory tests and litigation.
CoQ10 is a protein catalyst found in every cell in the human body. This organic compound acts as an antioxidant, breaking down free radicals. Free radicals are a highly reactive form of oxygen ions produced as a byproduct of metabolism. All humans constantly produce free radicals.
Some scientists believe that damage from free radicals is a major part of the aging process as a lifetime of cellular damage accumulates. The body uses various chemicals, including Coenzyme 10, to render free radicals harmless. These compounds are called “antioxidants” since radicals cause cellular damage through a chemical process called oxidation.
Over time, however, the body loses the ability to produce this enzyme and other antioxidants as it ages. Some fitness experts recommend Coenzyme 10-based supplements to improve recovery time from exercise and limit aging. These alleged benefits have led to massive sales of the supplement.
There is a booming market for Coenzyme 10 supplements based on its alleged benefits. It is now the fourth best-selling nutritional supplement in the United States. Sales of CoQ10 generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for the alternative medicine industry.
With such a demand, CoQ10 manufacturers are struggling to distinguish themselves from the rest of the market. However, in some cases, certain manufacturers of Coenzyme 10 may have made marketing claims that their products failed to live up to.
Class Action Investigation Targets CoQ10 Deceptive Marketing
Some manufacturers of Coenzyme 10 supplements may have put exaggerated claims on their supplements to try and get consumers to pick their supplements over competitors’. Some makers of generic CoQ10 supplements allege that their product is easier for the body to absorb than other competing brands of CoQ10. However, these claims can be tested and may be disproven in many instances by laboratory tests. If that proves to be the case, manufacturers could face legal action over their false advertising claims.
An investigation has been launched to explore a class action lawsuit against the manufacturers of generic Conezyme-10 supplements that claim superior absorption. Such a CoQ10 class action lawsuit could allege that these manufacturers made supplements that were not able to pass laboratory tests for minimal effectiveness and absorption. The consumer advocates spearheading this case are looking for consumers to participate in a free class action lawsuit investigation if they purchased generic CoQ10 supplements that they believe were fraudulently marketed as having superior absorption.
If you purchased a store-brand Coenzyme-10 supplement that promoted itself as having superior absorption than competing products, you may have a case. You can start to explore your options by visiting the CoQ10 Generic Supplement Class Action Lawsuit Investigation.
