A growing number of users of the Tasigna medication are coming forward with adverse event reports and claiming that they were never told about the dangerous side effects and problems connected to the leukemia drug. More than a dozen studies from all over the globe have connected Tasigna with the possibility of atherosclerosis, as patients are now finding out.
If you or someone you know has already developed circulatory or cardiovascular Tasigna side effects after using this medication and were never appropriately warned about these risks in advance, you might have grounds to pursue legal recourse.
Those who were given Tasigna to treat chronic myeloid leukemia may not be aware of the connection between Tasigna and the possibility of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is one of the most serious Tasigna side effects because it refers to the clogging, narrowing, or hardening of the arteries. Ultimately, these Tasigna side effects could develop into peripheral arterial disease and a life-threatening condition.
Doctors and patients who have come forward with the concerns about Tasigna side effects say that the labeling information and other promotional materials attached to Tasigna failed to provide the right information about life threatening complications.
Tasigna Side Effects
A number of different Tasigna side effects have been named in recent Tasigna lawsuits and on behalf of those patients who suffered life threatening conditions. Some of the most common Tasigna side effects reported by users include infections, heart attack, stroke, atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, amputation, peripheral arterial disease, circulatory issues, and heart attacks.
Tasigna was originally approved by the FDA in 2007 for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia. In 2016, Tasigna had more than $1.7 billion in sales, making it one of the most popular cancer drugs in the world.
Originally, Tasigna side effects were outlined in a black box warning related to other conditions. However, the concerns related to Tasigna atherosclerosis and other similar complications were not revealed until several years later.
Atherosclerosis, if not identified early by a doctor, can become a life-threatening condition because it causes the arterial walls to harden and thicken with plaque build-up. Ultimately, the patients’ blood flow could be at risk because of this Tasigna side effect. Moreover, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) can occur when the arteries of the patient become too narrow.
Numerous studies throughout Canada, Europe and the United States have linked these cardiac complications to use of the medication. The first study connecting Tasigna to the risk of atherosclerosis was published in 2011. That particular research project identified that one quarter of the patients taking Tasigna experienced vascular problems and that a further 16 percent suffered from peripheral arterial disease due to taking the drug.
A growing number of lawsuits have been filed related to Tasigna side effects and those patients who have already been harmed because of serious and unexpected medical conditions related to Tasigna may have grounds to pursue their own lawsuit with the help of an experienced lawyer.
In general, Tasigna lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
