Alaska Airlines class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff Luke Burton filed a class action lawsuit against Alaska Airlines Inc.
  • Why: Burton claims Alaska Airlines reduced the benefits of its Flight Pass program by half.
  • Where: The Alaska Airlines class action was filed in California federal court.

An Alaska Airlines class action lawsuit claims the airline reduced the benefits of its Flight Pass program by half while continuing to charge subscribers the same rate.

Plaintiff Luke Burton claims Alaska Airlines engaged in unfair and deceptive practices by unilaterally altering the terms of the program, which he says was marketed as a cost-effective solution for frequent travelers.

“Subscribers were eligible to receive credits that entitled them to a fixed number of flights per month for the year,” the Alaska Airlines class action says. “However, Alaska Airlines drastically reduced the program’s core benefit in September 2024, cutting the number of guaranteed flight redemptions in half while retaining subscribers’ payments,” the lawsuit added.

Burton wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers who subscribed to the Flight Pass program and were allegedly harmed by Alaska Airlines’ “unilateral” changes to the program’s terms in September 2024.

Alaska Airlines Flight Pass program allegedly had ‘operational flaws’

The Alaska Airlines class action claims the Flight Pass program had “operational flaws” and undisclosed limitations, such as a misleading pricing structure, a cumbersome booking process and restrictive policies on credits, changes and cancellations.

The lawsuit alleges Alaska Airlines misrepresented the program’s value by advertising fixed rates and exclusive low-cost fares, while in reality, subscribers often had to pay additional taxes, fees and premium charges for desirable flights.

Burton argues Alaska Airlines also provided inaccurate route information and failed to disclose the punitive nature of its policies, such as the forfeiture of expired credits and the limited usability of eWallet credits for future bookings.

Burton claims Alaska Airlines breached its contract with subscribers and violated consumer protection laws in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Washington.

The lawsuit demands damages, restitution and injunctive relief to prevent further harm to consumers.

Meanwhile, a group of passengers aboard a Boeing 737 Max filed a lawsuit against Boeing, Alaska Airlines and aircraft manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems after a door plug blew out midflight last January.

Please add me. I bought class pass to visit my sister in Salt Lake City. The front page says no black out dates and the page says book for .01 after the monthly fee but there’s no eligible flights to Utah and any other city costs $50 or more. Deceiving and customer service couldn’t even find flights that would be included without additional fees in the rage of $80
