asbestos stampCBS Corporation and two other major manufacturers are facing a new negligence claim alleging the companies failed to warn the plaintiff and the general public about the asbestos health risks their products presented.

Crane Co. and Foster Wheeler LLC are also named as defendants in the asbestos disease lawsuit, with the plaintiff alleging they had failed to warn him and others about the severity of asbestos health risks.

Plaintiff Arnold G. is filing this asbestos disease lawsuit against the companies, alleging they either knew or should have known about the asbestos health risks their products presented, including the rare form of lung disease known as mesothelioma.

Unlike typical lung cancer, mesothelioma occurs when cancer cells fester in the membrane around the lungs rather than the lungs themselves. The progression of this disease is quite slow, often taking up to 50 years before showing any symptoms.

This often results in late diagnoses and limited treatment options, leaving patients like Arnold with very little time left in their lives.

Asbestos Exposure at Work

According to the asbestos disease lawsuit, Arnold worked as a painter and cleaner for General Dynamics starting in 1966 and has remained employed at the same company since.

During the course of his employment during the 1970s, he was aboard submarines that were under construction repair and took part in the cleaning and painting process. At this time, he says he had been regularly exposed to asbestos products and had to use materials containing asbestos for his jobs.

Due to interacting with these products on a regular basis, Arnold sustained daily occupational asbestos exposure and became vulnerable to asbestos health risks. Along with mesothelioma, Arnold says he was also put at risk for asbestosis and other asbestos lung disease and will have to contend with his asbestos disease diagnosis for the remainder of his life.

Arnold opted to file legal action against CBS Corporation and the other companies after discovering the companies had been using these dangerous products even though they were allegedly aware of the asbestos health risks.

Overview of Asbestos Health Risks

Asbestos is a fibrous material that was popularly used before the 1980s for a variety of manufacturing and construction purposes, due to its fire and chemical resistant qualities. Asbestos was also cheap to use, which made it a favorite in the industrial industry.

Asbestos reached its peak in popularity during World War II, with the material implemented in various United States Navy ships and shipyards. Overall, asbestos was used in numerous occupational fields that required an application of manufacturing or construction, which resulted in numerous people experiencing occupational asbestos exposure.

In addition to the people who sustained occupational exposure, the loved ones of these former workers are also vulnerable to asbestos health risks. When family members or spouses handled the employee’s clothing, they may have inhaled or swallowed asbestos fibers so are also at risk for chronic health problems like asbestos lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Arnold alleges the companies failed to warn or protect against asbestos, and left him and other employees vulnerable to asbestos health risks. Arnold is filing this asbestos disease lawsuit alleging multiple counts of negligence and failure to warn, and is seeking compensation for medical care.

This Asbestos Disease Lawsuit is Case No. 3:18-cv-00328-SRU in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
