The Department of Justice reports that several EFP and IED-related attacks that occurred in Iraq and Afghanistan had the support of Iran behind them. Filing an EFP roadside bomb lawsuit can provide some form of compensation for your pain and suffering.

After the death of their 23-year-old son killed during service in the U.S. Army by an EFP roadside bomb in Iraq, one U.S. family chose to file a lawsuit against both Iran and the financial institutions that allowed the funding of these bombs.

The EFP roadside bomb lawsuit alleges that Iran and a network of foreign banks were responsible for the funding and manufacture of a number of EFP and IED bombs, ultimately leading to the death of their son and many others. The family filed their EFP roadside bomb lawsuit alongside more than a hundred other victims and their families.

The IED & EFP Investigation

Iran reportedly provided a variety of weapons in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, including EFPs and IEDs, which may have been involved in the deaths and injuries of thousands of U.S. soldiers.

Though Congress had placed sanctions on Iran to prevent the country from engaging in acts of terrorism that could harm U.S. soldiers, the country allegedly found a way to circumvent these sanctions. While the sanctions were designed to limit Iran’s ability to accept financial payments or deals, Iran allegedly sought the assistance of foreign banks that would willfully ignore the sanctions.

American government authorities are now investigating financial institutions that may have participated in this scheme. Banks that were involved in breaking Iranian sanctions may be required to offer compensation to military veterans and their families who were harmed in IED or EFP incidents.

At least nine banks have so far been connected with—and admitted to—this sponsorship of terrorism in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. These banks include HSBC of UK, Commerzbank of Germany, and BNP Paribas of France.

IEDs and EFPs

Essentially, EFPs (Explosively Formed Penetrators) function as powerful roadside bombs. When an EFP explodes, it shoots out large portions of hot copper which are capable of penetrating through a tank and traveling a hundred yards or more. Given how efficient they are, EFPs are considered the “most lethal weapon American forces faced in Iraq” by The New York Times.

Thousands of U.S. military members have lost their lives to EFP and IED (Improvised Explosive Device) bombs.

Filing an EFP Roadside Bomb Lawsuit

Under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act, veterans and service members injured or killed in the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, and even their family members may be able to file EFP roadside bomb lawsuit against these banks, alleging that these actions led to injuries or even deaths.

If you are an Iraq or Afghanistan military veteran and were injured by an EFP or IED device, you may be able to file an EFP roadside bomb lawsuit under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act. If a loved one was killed or injured by one of these devices, you may also be eligible to pursue litigation.

While filing an EFP roadside bomb lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by these kinds of injuries, or bring a loved back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial injuries.
