Bumble class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Plaintiff Tyra Omirin filed a class action lawsuit against Bumble Inc.
- Why: Omirin claims Bumble failed to safeguard consumers’ personally identifiable information (PII) during a data breach in January 2026.
- Where: The Bumble data breach class action lawsuit was filed in Texas federal court.
A new class action lawsuit accuses Bumble of failing to properly secure and safeguard the personally identifiable information of its customers during a data breach earlier this year.
Plaintiff Tyra Omirin claims Bumble failed to ensure that the PII it obtained from customers was maintained in a manner consistent with industry standards, statute and regulation.
“Defendant disregarded the rights of the plaintiff and class members by intentionally, willfully, recklessly and/or negligently failing to take and implement adequate and reasonable measures to ensure that the plaintiff’s and class members’ PII was safeguarded,” the Bumble class action lawsuit says.
Omirin wants to represent a nationwide class and Texas subclass of individuals whose PII was stored by Bumble and/or was exposed to unauthorized third parties as a result of a data breach that occurred on or around January 2026.
Class action alleges Bumble failed to implement adequate data security measures
Omirin claims Bumble failed to take available steps to prevent an unauthorized disclosure of data and failed to follow applicable, required and appropriate protocols, policies and procedures regarding the encryption of data.
“Plaintiff and class members relied on the defendant to keep their PII confidential and securely maintained, to use this information for business purposes only and to make only authorized disclosures of this information,” the Bumble class action lawsuit says.
Omirin argues Bumble could have prevented the data breach by properly securing and encrypting and/or more securely encrypting its servers generally as well as the PII of herself and class members.
The lawsuit claims Bumble is guilty of negligence, breach of implied contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, unjust enrichment and violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of damages for herself and all class members.
In 2024, Bumble faced a class action lawsuit alleging its “first move” feature discriminates against straight women by requiring them to initiate contact with matched straight men, thereby denying them the opportunity to be pursued.
