Baby seat for bicycles recalled over fall hazardHealth Canada has issued a recall alert notice for BTWIN Baby Seat 100 BCLIP over a potential fall hazard.

According to the notice, the product is a child’s bicycle seat with a back plastic outer shell, footrest and a blue seat cushion. The seat has black straps with a front buckle that, according to the Baby Seat 100 BCLIP recall notice, can break. According to the distributor’s recall notice, affected buckles have a turquoise blue line on the front of the buckle. If the buckle breaks, the child can slip out of the seat.

The seat is model number 8486914 and item number 2538309. This information can be found in the instruction manual for the product.

The BTWIN Baby Seat 100 BCLIP for bicycles were sold between November of 2018 and October of 2019, according to the Health Canada recall notice; however, the company’s recall notice indicates that these products were sold between Jan. 1, 2016 and June 6, 2019.

In Canada, about 115 child seats were sold by distributor Décathlon Canada Inc. based out of Quebec. The product is manufactured by Polisport Plásticos SA which is based in Portugal.

Fortunately, according to the Health Canada recall alert, no reports of injuries or incidents related to the Baby Seat 100 BCLIP for bicycles have been reported to the agency. The agency urges consumers to inspect their bicycle seats to see if they are affected by the recall. Specifically, Health Canada says to look for a turquoise blue line in the baby seat.

Consumers with affected BTWIN Baby Seat 100 BCLIPs can return the item to a Décathlon for an exchange or refund. Consumers with questions can contact the company by calling 1-844-533-3322, by email, or by visiting the company’s website at https://pages.decathlon.ca/product-recalls.

“Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. Best wishes,” states the company’s recall notice.

“Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada,” states the Baby Seat 100 BCLIP for bicycles recall notice from Health Canada. “Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.”

Other Décathlon Bicycle Product Recalls

According to Décathlon’s website, a number of other recalls have been issued for the company’s products. These items include a binding, the SNB 100, SNB Click, and All Road 500, a bike carrier adaptor bar, a headlamp, and Gloves Pro.
