Blue Bell ice cream recall overview:

  • Who: Blue Bell is recalling a limited quantity of Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream that was accidentally sold as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
  • Why: The recall is due to undeclared allergens, such as almonds, walnuts and pecans, found in the product.
  • Where: The recall affects products distributed in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Mississippi, Texas and Virginia.

Blue Bell has recalled its Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream after it was mistakenly packaged in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough cartons, posing a risk to consumers with nut allergies due to undeclared almonds, walnuts and pecans.

The recall, announced on Aug. 22, involves half-gallon tubs of Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream that were incorrectly labeled as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, though the lids were correctly marked.

This packaging mishap was discovered by a Blue Bell employee during a routine restocking at a retailer. The specific product was produced at Blue Bell’s Brenham, Texas, plant and distributed across several states, including Alabama, Arkansas and Texas, among others.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds, walnuts and pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall notice emphasizes.

The affected products can be identified by the code 061027524 on the lid of the half-gallon container. Fortunately, no illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported so far, according to Blue Bell.

Consumers advised to check packaging for errors

The recall notice advises consumers to carefully check their ice cream packaging for the correct labeling. Consumers who have this product should discontinue use immediately and return it to the place of purchase or discard it, the recall notice states.

Blue Bell is actively working to resolve the issue and prevent similar incidents in the future. It has not reported any other instances of incorrect packaging beyond the initial discovery.

The company has taken swift action to mitigate any potential health risks and is offering a full refund for returned products.

For more information about the recall, consumers can contact Blue Bell directly at 979-836-7977, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, or via email at [email protected].

Blue Bell is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Also in August, DFA Dairy Brands recalled 324 cartons of Friendly’s Cookies & Cream Ice Cream because of undeclared soy and wheat allergens.
