Billie deodorant class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Two consumers filed a class action lawsuit against the Edgewell Personal Care group of companies.
  • Why: The plaintiffs allege Edgewell failed to disclose that its Billie All Day Deodorant can cause chemical burns and skin irritation.
  • Where: The Edgewell class action was filed in Connecticut federal court.

A new nationwide class action lawsuit against Edgewell Personal Care Co., Edgewell Personal Care LLC and Edgewell Personal Care Brands LLC alleges the companies failed to disclose that Billie All Day Deodorant can cause chemical burns and skin irritation.

Plaintiffs Tina Marie Barrales and Deadra Powell filed the Edgewell deodorant lawsuit complaint on April 14 in Connecticut federal court, alleging violations of various consumer protection laws, warranty statutes and common law.

The plaintiffs claim Edgewell misrepresented the safety and suitability of Billie All Day Deodorant by advertising it as safe for sensitive skin and free from harsh ingredients, such as aluminum and baking soda.

However, the plaintiffs say they suffered chemical burns and rashes after using the deodorant, which they purchased from Walmart stores in California and Louisiana.

According to the Edgewell class action, the deodorant’s packaging and online advertisements falsely claim it contains soothing ingredients and is safe to apply directly to the skin for up to 24 hours.

Edgewell knew about defect, class action claims

The plaintiffs allege Edgewell was aware of the defect but continued to sell the product without disclosing the risk to consumers.

They cite numerous consumer complaints on social media platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram, and on Walmart’s website as evidence of the widespread nature of the problem.

The class action claims Edgewell failed to remedy the defect or offer refunds to affected consumers.

The plaintiffs seek to represent a nationwide class of consumers who purchased or used Billie All Day Deodorant as well as subclasses of consumers in California and Louisiana.

They are demanding compensatory damages and an injunctive relief requiring Edgewell to disclose the risk of skin irritation on future products.

In 2024, Procter & Gamble faced a class action alleging that its claims of “72-hour odor protection” for Native deodorant were false and not supported by clinical studies.
