Berkeley Club Beverages recalls bottled water due to bacteria

Berkeley Club Beverages recall overview: 

• Who: Berkeley Club Beverages issued a recall for more than 150,000 of its Berkeley bottled water. 
• Why: The bottled water recall was initiated after testing revealed the product tested positive for coliforms, a bacteria that can be found in drinking water and potentially cause adverse health effects.
• Where: The recalled Berkeley bottled water was distributed in West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia.

Berkeley Club Beverages is recalling more than 150,000 bottles of water after testing revealed the presence of coliforms, a type of bacteria that can be found in drinking water and that can make a person sick. 

The recall involves a total of 151,397 bottles of Berkeley Springs Water Purified and Berkeley Springs Water Distilled drinking water sold in one gallon and five gallon plastic containers with 6 gallons in one case and one individual five gallon. 

The recalled Berkeley bottled water was distributed in West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia, according to a recall notice published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). 

Berkeley Club Beverages voluntarily initiated bottled water recall in September

The FDA notice says the recall was voluntarily initiated Sept. 12, 2024 and classified as a Class III recall on Nov. 8, 2024. 

A Class III recall is assigned when a product violates federal regulations but is unlikely to cause adverse health effects. It is the least severe of the three possible recall classifications. 

Natural Waters of Viti Ltd. issued a separate recall involving bottled water earlier this year for more than 78,000 packs of its Fiji Natural Artesian Water, after testing revealed the product was contaminated with manganese and three types of bacteria.
