Atrazine Contaminated Water Class Action Settlement
By Mike Holter

The Atrazine settlement will resolve a 2010 class action lawsuit, entitled City of Greenville v. Syngenta Crop Protection, that claims Syngenta knew Atrazine would enter drinking water supplies and asked that Syngenta pay the cost to remove it.
Syngenta denies any wrongdoing and any risk to public health from the herbicide, but has agreed to create a $105 million class action lawsuit settlement fund to be divided among all Class Members after paying court-approved attorneys’ fees and costs and expenses.
Class Members of the Syngenta Atrazine class action settlement include any Community Water System (CWS) in the U.S. for that detect a measurable concentration of Atrazine in their water supply through a qualifying test result. CWS’s that register the most serious Atrazine contamination levels will receive proportionately higher recoveries, with hundreds of them recovering amounts between $100,000 to more than $1 million, according the lead Plaintiff’s attorney.
An estimated one in six Americans is affected by water contaminated by Atrazine. CWS’s have until August 28, 2012 to test their water.
To qualify for a payment from the Atrazine class action lawsuit settlement, CWS’s must submit a claim form to the Claims Administrator no later than August 28, 2012.
