Apple iPhone charger class action lawsuit overview:ย
- Who: Elizabeth Steines filed a class action lawsuit against Apple Inc.ย
- Why: Steines claims Apple misleads consumers by not including a charger with the sale of a new iPhone device.ย
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Illinois federal court.ย
Apple misleads consumers by not including a charger with the purchase of a new iPhone, a new class action lawsuit alleges.ย
Plaintiff Elizabeth Steines claims Apple began selling iPhones without the charger last year. Appleโs failure to include a charger with a new iPhone sale is not adequately disclosed to consumers, who are left unaware they purchased โan incomplete Product, devoid of essential functionality,โ according to the Apple class action.ย
Apple only discloses in small print on the back of the iPhone productโs box that the iPhone Lighting Cable, power adapter and headphones are sold separately, the Apple class action states.ย
Steines argues that, by selling the iPhone without a charger, the product is โnot adequate for its intended use, which was to function as a phone and mini-computer, because it requires power or energy to operate.โย
Steines claims further that consumers who buy a new iPhone and donโt already own a charger are forced to spend more money to purchase one, ultimately increasing the price of the product, according to the lawsuit.
โWhen Defendant removed the charger, not only was the price of the Product not correspondingly reduced by the amount of the power adapter, the price increased, unrelated to other added functionality which could justify this increase,โ the Apple class action states.ย
Apple claims environment as reason to not include iPhone charger with purchase
Apple claims its decision not to include a charger with an iPhone purchase is environmental, according to the Apple class action.ย
Steines argues, however, that Apple โcould have taken other measures to promote environmental sustainabilityโ instead of allegedly โrendering the Product non-functional unless an additional purchase was made.โย
Apple is accused of unjust enrichment, fraud, negligent misrepresentation and breach of contract, as well as violating the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, several state consumer fraud acts and the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.ย
Steines demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of monetary, statutory and/or punitive damages for herself and all class members.ย
She wants to represent an Illinois class and multistate consumer fraud class of individuals who have purchased a new iPhone during the statute of limitations for each alleged cause of action.ย
Consumers filed a separate class action lawsuit against Apple earlier this month, arguing the company ignored privacy advocates by releasing AirTag devices that can be used by stalkers and abusers to track their victims.ย

Bought an iPhone 12 Pro and it not come with a charger, had to purchase that separately.
purchase ipone 14 pro max and had no charging brick
When I first upgraded our devices, no one wanted us about it not having a charger block. And I just upgraded again and now I half to purchase separately a charging port for my new iPhone.
Add me
I would like to be added. When I got my iPhone it didnโt come with the base to charge my phone and it had switched from the original cord to the ctype. So not only did I have to buy a new base for the charger, I had to buy the cord to fit it
Add me! I purchase my IPhone 12 in 2021 and had to use an old iPad charger for a year until I could afford the usb-c adapter. My phone battery was negatively impacted by having to constantly use a barely functional charger.
I bought my iPhone 13 Pro around the time it released and converted from Android. I didnโt realize it didnโt have a charger and had to wait a couple days for a third party charger to be delivered since all the Apple brand chargers where sold out at the time. My phone of course died and was rendered useless until I received a charger. Luckily I had a computer to order the charger online. What if the iPhone was my only way of accessing the internet. This of course increased the overall price of the purchase of the iPhone and worsened the environmental impact due to the fact that the third party charger I bought came in a set of three instead of one individual charger that could have been included in the box.
Forgot to mention the iPhone 13 Pro charging cable was usb-c to lightning which made all my existing chargers from previous phones that took usb-a useless. If Apple truly was environmentally conscious they would make there charging cable port on the iPhone usb-c.
My daughter and I just got IPhone 14s, they didnโt come with the charger base.
Add me too.
I brought 3 iPhone 14 pro max that came without a changing box.
I bought two and was told I had to buy chargers there were not the same they were lightning chargers
Mine didnโt come with one either
Mine didnโt come with a charger cord or port!
