WEN cleansing conditioner

A California woman has filed a class action lawsuit against the makers of the WEN hair care line, claiming the products caused her and others to suffer significant hair loss.

Plaintiff Deborah Imig purchased the Wen Cleansing Conditioner Sweet Almond Mint Deluxe Kit in June 2015.  She claims that nowhere on the WEN website or in her order confirmation was there a warning regarding hair loss or other adverse side effects.

Upon using the product as directed, Imig began to experience an abnormal amount of hair loss.  After three months of using the product, she notified WEN. Rather than advise her to discontinue use of the product, WEN sent her the Pomegranate variation instead.

Imig states that she used the new variation for another three months and experienced even more hair loss and such extreme scalp sensitivity that she sought out a dermatologist who was unable to determine the cause for her condition.

According to the WEN class action lawsuit, Imig’s only explanation for her hair loss and sensitive scalp was WEN hair care products.

Imig is seeking class certification on behalf of herself and all others similarly situated. The WEN lawsuit seeks punitive damages against WEN by Chaz Dean products and Guthy-Renker, a California based direct-response marketing company and the organization behind the round-the-clock infomercials and internet advertising for WEN.

WEN Hair Loss

Hair stylist Chaz Dean’s high profile clientele include Brooke Shields, Alyssa Milano and Nicollette Sheridan, all of whom have plugged WEN as a miracle hair care line. The infomercials’ featured celebrity testimonials encourage consumers to use large amounts of WEN products, claiming they are “gentle enough to use every day.” The advertising also claims “You can never use too much! The more you use, the better the results.”

However, many angry customers are claiming that WEN gave them anything but the luxurious, healthy hair that was promised. WEN customers are taking to online forums, social media and even to the courts, alleging that WEN products caused severe injuries to their hair and scalp.

No one knows why so many cases of hair loss have been linked to WEN products. However, many of the complaints are linked to one product — WEN Cleansing Conditioner, a “5-in-1” product that claims to replace shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in-conditioner.

WEN Lawsuits

Many customers claim that the WEN cleansing conditioner caused them significant hair loss and scalp burns. They also claim the brand failed to warn consumers of the risks and dangers associated with the products quickly enough once consumers began complaining of the hazards, and removed negative reviews on social media instead of addressing them.

Earlier this month, court documents from an earlier class action lawsuit filed in a Los Angeles federal court against WEN and Guthy-Renker revealed that Guthy-Renker was conducting secret safety studies on WEN products even as complaints were pouring in. Under federal law, personal care products are not required to disclose customer complaints or safety studies to the FDA.

If you or a loved one used WEN hair care products and experienced significant hair loss, visible bald spots, or severe scalp irritation, you may have grounds to file a WEN lawsuit or join a consumer class action lawsuit to hold WEN by Chaz Dean and Guthy-Renker accountable for manufacturing and marketing an allegedly harmful product.

The WEN Class Action Lawsuit is Deborah Imig v. Guthy-Renker LL and WEN by Chaz Dean Inc., Case No. 2:2016cv00169 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
