Multiple customers have complained that sitting in Air France Premium Economy seats allegedly is like “torture” because of how uncomfortable they are.
At least one class action Air France Premium Economy lawsuit is currently making its way through the court system because of allegations that the upgrade does not meet the promised luxury standard.
According to the Air France Premium Economy lawsuit filed by plaintiff Abraham Hakimi, the airline promotes its Premium Economy seating as providing 40 percent more space than the economy cabin. He asserts the airline knew the premium price did not include 40 percent more room as advertised.
The seat pitch for the Economy class measures 32 inches, and the seat pitch for the Premium Economy seat is 38 inches. The Economy seat measures 17 inches wide, and the Premium Economy seat is 19 inches wide.
Hakimi says he paid an upgraded purchase price to have a more comfortable flight. He claims that because the Premium Economy seats failed to perform as advertised, clearly lacking the marketed 40 percent extra space, Air France was unjustly enriched by charging the extra money for luxury that wasn’t provided.
Air France Premium Economy Lawsuit
Hakimi’s Air France Premium Economy lawsuit seeks class action status to represent thousands of passengers who allegedly paid for Premium Economy seating that falls short of its promises.
In addition to his own experience, Hakimi supplies actual written reviews from other Air France customers who were so unhappy with their purchase of Premium Economy seats, they felt compelled to write online reviews.
One traveler says she endured a 12-hour flight from Asia to Paris and said her seat in the Air France Premium Economy class caused her to experience the most uncomfortable flight she’s ever had. Despite feeling exhausted, she said she was unable to situate herself well enough to fall asleep.
Another traveler wrote, “Premium Economy seats are torture. They do not recline and have far less padding that economy seats.”
One customer review quoted in the Air France Premium Economy lawsuit said his coach seat on a U.S. Air Force flight had been more comfortable. As a veteran traveler with more than 200 flights under his belt, he said his expectations weren’t that high, but he still was so cramped and uncomfortable during a 7-hour flight, he felt like it was “torture.” He indicated the design of the seat did not allow him to sit completely upright, but in recline mode, the entire seat moved as a single unit. He said, “I literally found it 100% impossible to get the seat comfortable.”
If your Air France Premium Economy seat did not provide 40 percent more space than the Economy cabin seats, you could be eligible to participate in an Air France Premium Economy lawsuit.
The Air France Premium Economy Lawsuit is Hakimi v. Societe Air France, S.A., Case No. 3:18-cv-01387, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
