Academy Sports recalls Magellan Odyssey Rocker Chairs due to hazardous defect

Academy Sports + Outdoors is recalling more than 35,000 Magellan Odyssey Rocker Chairs due to a potential risk of injury and falls.

The chairs, which were sold nationwide, have been identified as having a defect that could cause the legs to break, leading to potential harm to users.

The chairs were sold for approximately $50 at Academy Sports + Outdoors stores and online.

The recall, announced on Jan. 22, affects Magellan-branded Odyssey Rocker Chairs with manufacturing dates of July and August 2025. The chairs, sold between September and October 2025, were available in charcoal, navy, olive green and teal.

The chairs feature a metal frame, mesh backrest, carrying handle and a drink holder. The affected units can be identified by the label “ACADEMY, LTD,” “177296,” and the specific manufacture date printed on the chair’s tracking label.

Academy Sports + Outdoors has received one report of the chair’s legs breaking, although no injuries have been reported so far. 

Consumers advised to stop using recalled chairs immediately

The recall notice instructs customers to “immediately stop using the recalled chairs and return them to any Academy Sports + Outdoors store for a full refund.”

Academy Sports + Outdoors is taking proactive steps to address the issue by offering refunds to affected customers.
