Patients allege that while their Abilify gambling addiction problems may not appear to cause direct physical harm, it can lead to lasting monetary problems for patients and their families alike.

A Washington resident recently filed a lawsuit against Bristol-Myers Squibb alleging that the company’s antipsychotic medication led to serious Abilify gambling addiction problems that have lasted long term. The plaintiff, Koa G., began taking Abilify in 2009 and continued to use the medication until 2017. As a result, the lawsuit alleges, Koa began suffering from an Abilify gambling addiction that quickly racked up over $250,000 in monetary losses, as well as loss of his financial stability. The lawsuit further alleges that the effect Abilify had on Koa’s brain is enough to constitute a physical injury.

Koa filed the Abilify gambling addiction lawsuit on Oct. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including breach of express and implied warranties, negligence, negligent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, and others.

Background of Abilify

Abilify, also sold under the generic name aripiprazole, is manufactured jointly by Otsuka Pharmaceuticals and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Abilify is used as a treatment for several mental disorders, from schizophrenia to bipolar disorder and depression. Abilify is one of the more popular drugs of its kind and brings in nearly $8 billion in annual sales.

Despite the undeniable popularity of Abilify and its widespread use, more and more patients are reporting suffering from serious Abilify compulsive behavior side effects after taking the drug.  Reports suggest that these side effects manifest behaviors like sex addiction, compulsive shopping, and Abilify gambling addiction. These behaviors not only have a serious effect on how patients spend their time but can cause patients and their families to end up deep in debt.

Abilify Gambling Addiction

Abilify gambling addiction can directly cost a patient thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars, but this may not be the only major expense linked with the issue. One of the major problems with compulsive gambling and other impulse behaviors is that it is extremely difficult to stop and return to normal life without receiving professional help. As a result, patients can end up being hit with the substantial costs of gambling addiction treatment.
