Invokana Side Effects Can Include Amputations, FDA WarnsPatients taking diabetes drugs know they can expect some side effects. The information provided with the prescription, therefore, is used to determine whether or not the possible benefits outweigh the risks. Some users who have been affected by unexpected Invokana side effects, however, say the manufacturer failed to warn them about the associated risks.

Many patients are now arguing in complaints and lawsuits that they were not told about Invokana side effects that could lead to amputation of their limbs. Increasing awareness of this risk has led the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to require a new boxed warning to be added to the drug’s labeling.

As with any drug, there is always a risk of Invokana side effects. But some of those who have suffered and had to undergo amputations claim that they were never told in the drug’s warning label that they were at risk of losing a toe, foot or leg.

Studies indicate that people taking medications like Invokamet XR, Invokamet and Invokana may be twice as likely to have to undergo lower limb amputation, compared to other patients who took a placebo. Some of the most common Invokana side effects tied to amputation had to do with removal of the knee, leg, toe or foot. The most common amputations resulted in loss of toes and part of the foot, and some patients had to undergo more than one lower limb amputation allegedly due to Invokana side effects.

Certain individuals may be at a higher risk of amputation Invokana side effects, including those who have already been diagnosed with diabetic foot ulcers, neuropathy, or peripheral vascular disease. Anyone who has a previous history of diabetic amputation is also at heightened risk for another amputation.

Patients should be mindful of the symptoms of Invokana side effects that might lead to possible amputation, including ulcers, sores, new tenderness and pain, infections in feet and legs. Any patients experiencing these symptoms should report their concerns to their physician immediately to determine whether or not the medication regimen should be continued.

Some patients have already alleged that their Invokana side effects caused them significant harm as well as the expenses and pain of going through a diabetic related amputation. Some of these impacted patients have chosen to file an Invokana side effects lawsuit against the manufacturer for their lost wages, pain, suffering, and past and future medical expenses.

Many of these patients allege that the medical community was not properly warned about Invokana side effects, meaning that patients were not able to make informed decisions about whether or not to take the drug to begin with.

Plenty of the patients who have reported Invokana side effects and have undergone amputation say that they might have made a different decision about the medications they were taking if they had known about the dangers.

These Invokana side effects are also associated with other medications in the SGLT-2 inhibitor diabetes drug class. Anyone who has already experienced these problems is encouraged to report their concerns to their doctor.
