Another woman says that her breast cancer treatment with Taxotere caused her permanent hair loss from chemo.
Plaintiff Betty B. is the most recent plaintiff to allege hair loss from chemo in the Taxotere multidistrict litigation. Taxotere is a chemotherapy medication that causes severe and permanent hair loss, according to a growing number of people who have received the treatment.
The hair loss from chemo lawsuit says that the manufacturers of Taxotere, Sanofi-Aventis, have failed to notify patients and doctors about the permanent hair loss from chemo. Betty alleges that Sanofi-Aventis failed to tell her about these dangers in advance and that now she suffers from permanent and lasting hair loss as a result of Taxotere.
She says that she received the Taxotere treatment between June and July of 2013 and suffered significant hair loss. She says that she was not warned that permanent hair loss from chemo could be a side effect.
She alleges in her hair loss from chemo lawsuit that her hair has not grown back to the same level and quality as it was prior to the start of chemotherapy. She argues that the company is responsible on multiple counts, including fraudulent concealment, negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, failure to warn, and fraud and deceit.
Her hair loss from chemo lawsuit joins a growing number of complaints filed by patients who say they received the Taxotere treatment and then suffered permanent hair loss. Many of these patients claim they sustained hair loss of a permanent nature following chemotherapy that affected their eyebrows and their hair on their head.
Plaintiffs argue that the manufacturer is responsible for failing to warn them about known side effects including permanent hair loss from chemotherapy. The hair loss from chemo lawsuits have been consolidated into a multidistrict litigation, which helps to streamline the management of all of the complaints against the manufacturer.
Although patients who undergo chemotherapy do expect to lose their hair at least temporarily following the receipt of chemotherapy, they generally anticipate that it will grow back after they have concluded the cancer treatment.
However, many of the patients who have used Taxotere have suffered permanent and lasting hair loss from chemo and argue that the manufacturer is responsible for these permanent injuries and the failure to notify these patients that it would be a lasting result.
Chemotherapy is administered by itself or sometimes in conjunction with radiation therapy for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Since Taxotere has been available as a treatment, many women have turned to it in an effort to eradicate their cancer or to get into remission.
For many of those women, Taxotere was effective, but it allegedly came with the severe side effect they never expected in terms of not being able to regrow the hair. This caused some psychological damage, lawsuits say.
The Hair Loss from Chemo Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-09173-JTM-MVN; filed in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.
