Dr. George Tyndall is a former gynecologist who was employed by the University of Southern California. In a large USC scandal, over 300 women accused him of abusing patients. In order for George Tyndall to be persecuted, its important for as many victims as possible to come forward and tell their stories, to give the true scope of Tyndall’s abuse.
Filing a USC scandal lawsuit can help bring Dr. George Tyndall to justice, and can help victims be compensated for injury. Additionally, lawsuits like these can help hold organizations like USC accountable if they are complicit in covering up sexual assault or not doing enough to prevent abuse.
USC Sexual Assault Lawsuit
Both the University of Southern California and George Tyndall are facing lawsuits over the USC scandal.
Allegedly, George Tyndall sexually assaulted over 300 patients when he worked as a gynecologist at USC. The university was allegedly aware and allowed the abuse to continue. Victims have come forward to say that they filed complaints against Tyndall with the university, but the university continued to let him practice and covered up the complaints.
USC even acknowledged in a May 15 statement that multiple reports had been filed over the course of a number of years. A review of files kept by the director of the health center in which Tyndall was employed showed that eight reports against Tyndall had been field between 2000 and 2014.
Victims claim that the university’s response to Tyndall’s alleged abuse was insufficient. Tyndal was reportedly placed on leave in 2016 after he was accused of repeatedly making “racially discriminatory and sexually inappropriate remarks.”
The university then began the process to terminate Tyndall, but merely settled with him in 2017 after Tyndall responded by threatening the school with legal action. In 2017, Tyndall left the university.
Despite the numerous claims by victims against the university, USC argues that there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing on Tyndall’s part and says they never made an attempt to cover up allegedly inappropriate conduct.
However, many victims say that the university was well aware and did not stop the abuse. Some victims say that nurses and other healthcare professionals were in the room when Tyndall assaulted them and did nothing.
One USC scandal lawsuit claims that “USC nurses, chaperones, and other staff members were regularly present in the examination rooms, observed the inappropriate sexual molestation and took no steps to stop it as it occurred.”
Some victims say that Tyndall assaulted victims who were as young as 18, taking advantage of the fact that many had never had a gynecological exam before, so they did not know what was normal and appropriate contact in an examination, and therefore were less able to identify his abuse.
Some victims say that Tyndall touched them inappropriately, while others say that he made inappropriate comments about patients’ appearances and about their genitals during exams.
