Maryland citizens who recently refinanced may be able to take part in a $1.5 million Maryland Mariner Finance class action settlement.
The Maryland Mariner Finance class action settlement resolves litigation alleging that the finance company violated state law when it failed to include refinancing charges in the interest rate disclosed to consumers in their promissory notes.
According to the class action lawsuit, Mariner Finance also illegally pocketed insurance charges in violation of Maryland state law.
Under the terms of the Maryland Mariner Finance class action settlement, Class Members, including Maryland citizens who refinanced with Mariner Finance through June 29, 2018, could claim three times the amount of the refinance and insurance fees they were charged.
If there is not enough money in the settlement fund to pay all claims, Class Members will each receive a proportional share of the fund.
The finance company does not admit to any wrongdoing under the terms of the Maryland Mariner Finance class action settlement and maintains that Class Members should be required to use arbitration, rather than litigation, to address their claims. However, the company has agreed to the settlement agreement to avoid the time, expense, and uncertainty of litigation.
Class Members who do not want to take part in the Maryland Mariner Finance class action settlement need to let the court know by Oct. 13, 2018.
The final hearing on the settlement is scheduled for Dec. 5, 2019, with the deadline for Claims Forms set for 90 days after final approval.
Who’s Eligible

Varies depending on the refinancing and/or insurance charges.
