Essure Implant Side Effects Prompt Australian Class Action LawsuitAlthough Essure sales are finally halting, women around the world are still experiencing Essure implant side effects.

A mother of three living in the Australia is one example of the continued damage caused to consumer by Essure implant side effects. Nadi N. says that her life has been a “living hell” since she was implanted with the Essure device in 2010, according to the Daily Mail.

Nadi chose to get implanted with Essure after the birth of her youngest daughter. After speaking to her friends and doctor, she decided it was a better, more simplistic alternative to tubal ligation or hysterectomy. “At the time, it seemed like the best option for me. I already had three beautiful girls and I didn’t want anymore,” she told the Daily Mail.

Since implantation, she says she has experienced a variety of Essure implant side effects since 2010, however, including weight gain of 66 lbs., monthly bladder infections, incontinence, depression, migraines, chronic fatigue, cramps, reduced libido, and severe pain after sex.

Her weight gain was the most immediate of her Essure implant side effects she says. Within the first three months following her procedure she had gained 22 lbs., despite making no changes to her diet or activity level. By the time 18 months had passed, she had gained 66 lbs. total. “I was doing everything right and there was no reason for me to be piling on the weight. It was so depressing,” Nadi says.

Nadi has also struggled with her sex life due to debilitating pain. “Sex has become a nightmare. I’ve lost my libido and it’s so painful for me now after sex. I was someone who used to really enjoy that aspect of my life. But now I feel like it’s been ruined for me,” she noted.

She alleges that she also struggled with incontinence, fatigue, and migraines following her implantation with Essure. She attributes these changes to the device, contending that her sudden changes are Essure implant side effects.

“It has ruined my life completely and I really regret ever having it done,” Nadi says. “Each day has becoming a living hell because of these horrible side effects.”

Nadi wishes that she was warned about the potential Essure implant side effects before being implanted with the device, according to the Daily Mail.

“I wish I knew about this before getting it implanted inside of me. Now all I want is for it to be out,” Nadi laments. “I’m in pain every day and it’s affected every aspect of my life. I just want to get back to normal. I want to have my life back.”

Due to the debilitating Essure implant side effects she has experienced, Nadi has joined countless other Australian women in taking legal action against Bayer. A class action lawsuit was announced in August by Australian law firm Slater and Gordon, following the example of countless lawsuits filed in the United States, Canada, and Scotland.

Although the company is “saddened” to hear of patients experiencing adverse Essure implant side effects, Bayer maintains that its device is safe and effective.

“Essure is supported by an extensive body of research, including more than 40 published studies involving more than 200,000 patients worldwide over the past 20 years,” said a spokesperson for Bayer. “The company will continue to offer a range of long-acting reversible contraceptives and short-acting oral contraceptives in Australia.”

In general, Essure lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
