Side Effects of Uloric For Gout Can Be SevereConsumer complaints and adverse event reports have indicated that there are many different side effects of Uloric for gout that could compromise a patient’s health and wellness.

Once a Uloric prescription has been given to a patient who has received a diagnosis of gout, the patient may not be fully informed of the full range of symptoms and problems that could be experienced, according to recent complaints from numerous patients who have taken the medication. Some of the side effects of Uloric for gout can affect a patient’s heart.

The Food and Drug Administration, in fact, issued a warning about the side effects of Uloric for gout in connection with a higher rate of heart related deaths. The study looked at patients taking Uloric with allopurinol, a medication that is sold under the name brands Alloprim and Zyloprim.

The study identified that when taking Uloric for management of gout, a patient could be at a higher risk of suffering from non-deadly heart attacks, non-deadly strokes and a condition known as cardiac ischemia.

Of these conditions, in particular, cardiac ischemia can lead to advanced medical problems or the need for urgent surgery. If you or a loved one suffered any of these side effects of Uloric for gout and were never told about the dangers and the problems, you could have grounds to participate in a class action lawsuit.

In November 2017, the Food and Drug Administration issued two separate drug safety communications about the dangerous side effects of Uloric for gout. That announcement came shortly after the drug manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, released their clinical trial results, indicating an increase in the risk of fatal heart related conditions and death, when compared with the gout medication allopurinol.

More than 6,000 patients with gout were included in that clinical trial who were taking either allopurinol or Uloric. The primary outcome of the trial indicated that some of the side effects of Uloric for gout included risk of non-deadly stroke, non-deadly heart attack, cardiac ischemia and heart related death.

Originally approved in 2009, the initial clinical trials connected to Uloric showed a risk of heart related deaths, strokes and heart attacks. Those were included on the warning label of the drug. These initial warning labels led to the Food and Drug Administration requiring the manufacturer of the medication to carry out an additional study following the drug’s release.

A 2012 whistleblower lawsuit related to the side effects of Uloric for gout was initiated by a Takeda safety consultant, who claimed that the manufacturer went out of their way to avoid sharing the true details of the side effects of Uloric for gout as far as their severity and high risk. According to the whistleblower, Takeda failed to disclose the risks patients face when combining Uloric with other medications like digoxin, imuran, methadone, and warfarin.

If you or someone you know has already suffered heart-related side effects of Uloric for gout, you could have grounds to initiate a lawsuit against the manufacturer.

In general, Uloric lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
