Valsartan Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Contaminated Medications Present Cancer RiskZhejiang HuaHai Pharmaceutical Company is facing a new valsartan class action lawsuit, alleging the high blood pressure medication did not work as promised.

This valsartan class action lawsuit is being led by a man from Illinois, claiming the blood pressure medications were contaminated with a substance that can cause cancer.

Lead plaintiff Robert K. is leading the charge in this valsartan class action lawsuit, and is also seeking damages against Walmart and other retailers that allegedly sold the contaminated medications.ย Robert reportedly used valsartan on a daily basis and according to the prescription instructions, before learning of the FDA recall.

The valsartan class action lawsuit alleges that during the manufacturing process, the blood pressure medication was contaminated with N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). This substance is classified as a probable carcinogen, and could cause serious health problems in patients.

Robert claims that due to this contamination, numerous patients were prescribed a blood pressure medication that did not work as it was advertised and could compromise their health.

Overview of Valsartan Class Action Lawsuit

According to the valsartan class action lawsuit, Robert had received a letter from Walmart on July 25, 2018 that warned him that the valsartan medication he was using was contaminated with NDMA and that certain stocks of the medication were recalled.

He says the letter explained that valsartan medications manufactured by Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Company were contaminated with NDMA during the manufacturing process.

The letter allegedly advised Robert contact his Walmart pharmacy to return the contaminated drugs and to have them replaced, and to also talk to their pharmacist about the potential side effects he could experience. Robert says he was also advised to talk to his prescribing physician about finding an alternative treatment for high blood pressure.

Earlier on July 13, 2018, the FDA had announced a voluntary recall of several brands of valsartan containing medications manufactured by Zhejiang Huahai and other defendant companies Solco and Prinston.ย Each of these manufacturing companies allegedly produced, supplied, and sold contaminated valsartan medications, potentially putting patients at risk for cancer.

Valsartan is a generic version of Diovan, which is a blood pressure medication that is supposed to help prevent cardiovascular complications like heart failure and cardiac death.

Generic valsartan is supposed to give patients a cheaper pharmaceutical alternative to brand-name Diovan. Robert argues that with the NDMA contamination, the affected valsartanย medications cannot do this as they present a carcinogenic risk and should not be consumed by humans.

It is important to note that not all valsartan based medications were affected by the contamination. The FDA is currently working with these drug manufacturers to prevent more patients from ingesting the contaminated valsartan.

After learning of the FDA recall, Robert filed this valsartan class action lawsuit to represent other similarly situated consumers. Patients who ingested contaminated valsartan medications may be able to participate in a valsartan lawsuit investigation and can seek damages against the pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors.

This Valsartan Class Action Lawsuit is Case No. 1:18-cv-05944, in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.
