Woman Says Father Died from Side Effects of Anticoagulant XareltoNew litigation has been filed against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, alleging the company’s anticoagulant Xarelto caused a Florida man to suffer serious bleeding injuries. The lawsuit was filed by his only surviving daughter.

The daughter, plaintiff Patricia M., filed her lawsuit on behalf of her late father Henry C. According to the lawsuit, Henry began taking the anticoagulant Xarelto on Aug. 24, 2016. Unfortunately, Patricia says that about a week later, Henry suffered from a number of severe injuries, including blood loss anemia and hematuria. She says his injuries required hospitalization, and few months later, on Dec. 8, 2016, Henry passed away.

Patricia turned to litigation, alleging that her father’s bleeding injuries were a direct result of his exposure to the anticoagulant Xarelto. She alleges that Henry was not adequately warned about the bleeding risks associated with the anticoagulant Xarelto, placing him at risk.

Patricia filed her anticoagulant Xarelto lawsuit on Sept. 6, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, fraud, and several others.

Basics of the Anticoagulant Xarelto

The anticoagulant Xarelto (generic name rivaroxaban) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011 to be used as a blood thinner. Xarelto is manufactured and sold by Janssen, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Xarelto is approved to treat blood clots and related conditions, including deep vein thrombosis.

In the years since its initial approval, Xarelto has quickly grown in popularity, rapidly becoming one of the most widely used anticoagulants available today.

Side Effects of the Anticoagulant Xarelto

Despite how popular Xarelto has become, more and more lawsuits are being filed over side effects associated with the medication. Reported side effects include severe or even life-threatening complications, including internal bleeding and intracranial hemorrhage.

Lawsuits allege that Janssen Pharmaceuticals was actually aware about the severe complications linked with its anticoagulant Xarelto, but failed to warn patients and the medical community about these risks, choosing to place company profit over the safety of patients.

Filing an Anticoagulant Xarelto Lawsuit

Hundreds of Xarelto lawsuits have been filed against Janssen over patients who, after taking the anticoagulant Xarelto, have experienced a number of major complications like brain hemorrhaging, internal bleeding, or other adverse effects. Some of these lawsuits are filed by family members after the death of a loved one from severe Xarelto complications.

While filing a Xarelto lawsuit cannot undo the effects of complications or injuries, or bring a loved one back to life, it can at least help to alleviate some of the financial burden inevitably caused by medical expenses, lost wages, and more.

If you or a loved one has suffered from internal bleeding or other major side effects of the anticoagulant Xarelto, or a loved one has died after Xarelto usage, you may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit and receive compensation.

The Anticoagulant Xarelto Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-08407-EEF-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
