Uncontrollable Bleeding From Pradaxa Prompts Consumer LawsuitsIf you or a loved one experienced uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa, you may be eligible to file a Pradaxa lawsuit and recover compensation for medical expense, pain and suffering, and more.

Pradaxa (dabigatran) is an anticoagulant used to thin the blood of patients at risk for dangerous clotting. The blood thinner was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010. Like many modern blood thinners, Pradaxa was developed to compete with warfarin, the anticoagulant which has been used by patients and doctors for 60 years.

It is difficult for modern blood thinners to compete with warfarin because it has been widely used for decades. Like many other modern blood thinners, Pradaxa was marketed aggressively by highlighting the drug’s positive qualities. These marketing strategies often intend to draw in patients with promises of infrequent blood monitoring and fewer dietary changes, both of which are required with warfarin.

However, Pradaxa may fall behind warfarin in one serious category — safety. In the first three months of Pradaxa being sold on the U.S. market, the FDA reportedly received 307 reports of uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa. Within the first year, 260 reports of uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa resulted in death. Following the high number of adverse reports, the FDA released a safety alert regarding the drug, warning patients and consumers of the risk of uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa.

Uncontrollable Bleeding from Pradaxa

Patients on the blood thinner who experienced uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa have reported a variety of potential bleeding complications including internal bleeding, kidney bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, heart attack, stroke, brain hemorrhage, and death. Although symptoms of uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa will vary depending on the severity and location of the bleed, any irregular bleeding symptoms could be signs of a serious bleed and should be treated by a medical professional.

In October 2015, Boehringer Ingelheim made history when it released Praxbind, the first every antidote for a modern blood thinner. Preliminary approval was accelerated by the FDA due to the product’s historic potential, and full approval was granted in April 2018. Although the product has been sparsely available since its preliminary approval, it should become more widely available now that full approval has been granted. Before Praxbind was available, however, the only treatment available for uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa was dialysis and blood profusions, both of which may be difficult for patients and will not even work.

Praxbind is an incredible innovation and will save the lives of countless consumers affected by uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa. However, some consumers believe it is too little too late. The antidote does not benefit those who have already experienced serious injury or death due to uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa. Consumers irrevocably effected by Pradaxa bleeding events have filed lawsuits against Boehringer Ingelheim, arguing that the company did not properly warn consumers and physicians about the risks associated with the blood thinner.

If you or a loved one experienced uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa use, you may qualify for legal action against Boehringer Ingelheim. A Pradaxa lawsuit could help recover compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, wrongful death, and more.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
