People who receive the Zostavax shingles vaccine are probably under the impression that this vaccine will prevent them from suffering health consequences.
However, plenty of people have lodged Zostavax lawsuits after suffering adverse side effects following the receipt of the Zostavax shingles vaccine.
Allegations from people who have received the Zostavax shingles vaccine include that the live virus could be too potent for certain individuals, which may lead to critical and compromising side effects. An adverse shingle shot reaction has been recorded for those individuals up to six months after initially receiving the vaccine.
While the vaccine is designed to prevent shingles, numerous adverse reports were brought forward by patients who either developed shingles or who dealt with other side effects they claim they were never told were a possibility.
All of these issues can cause serious complications or pain, prompting some vaccine recipients to file lawsuits against the vaccine maker.
These vaccine side effects may vary based on the person who received it. Reported side effects have included stroke, hearing loss, developing shingles, spinal cord inflammation, vasculitis, pneumonia, congestive heart failure, cardiovascular events, serious neurological disorders, vision problems and neuralgia.
While many of the injuries recorded after the Zostavax shingles vaccine happen within six months after getting the vaccine, long-term damages including neurological issues have also been reported.
Individuals over the age of 50 are most likely to receive the Zostavax shingles vaccine. The vaccine works by using a weakened version of the chickenpox virus to help the immune system build itself up against the development of shingles.
Shingles vaccine side effects, as reported by the manufacturer, include joint pain, a local reaction to the injection, fever, nausea and muscle pain. But other more severe side effects have been reported, and consumers allege that they were not told about these in advance and were, therefore, unable to make an informed decision about whether or not the Zostavax shingles vaccine was right for them.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has received numerous adverse event reports including brain damage, blindness and paralysis. The federal agency, therefore, issued two black box warnings which required the manufacturer to update the Zostavax labels. The labels were later updated again to address vision damage that was caused by eye inflammation.
Federal and state courts have become home to Zostavax shingles vaccine lawsuits. The first lawsuit was filed in February 2017, and similar complaints from other patients have been recorded and added to dockets across the United States since then.
Patients who have suffered adverse effects after receiving the Zostavax shingles vaccine might consider filing a lawsuit as a way to hold the manufacturer of the vaccine accountable for failing to warn about the side effects which could develop. A Zostavax lawsuit may enable victims to recover compensation for permanent disability, medical costs, wrongful death, lost wages and more.
