Marine Reservist Files Asbestos Lawsuit Against Dozens of ManufacturersA Texas man recently filed an asbestos lawsuit against a slew of manufacturers, including Boeing, alleging the negligence of these companies led to his exposure to asbestos and subsequent diagnosis with mesothelioma.

The plaintiff, Bruce B., says worked through the course of his career in a number of capacities, including as a laborer, manufacturing engineer, foreman, and manager.

According to his lawsuit, he was exposed to the dangerous substance asbestos by a number of the products he worked with. His asbestos lawsuit names dozens of companies responsible for manufacturing asbestos-containing products he was exposed to during his work from 1963 to 2002.

Specifically, Bruce claims he was exposed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, as well as in civilian work capacities through his decades-long career.

Because of this exposure, the asbestos lawsuit alleges, Bruce was diagnosed with mesothelioma March 6, 2017. Bruce says his mesothelioma diagnosis has resulted in damages including physical pain, anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, and more.

According to Bruce’s asbestos lawsuit, his exposure to asbestos should have been foreseen and prevented—indeed, he claims that the companies named in the lawsuit were aware or should have been aware of the risk.

Bruce filed his asbestos lawsuit on June 18, 2018 in the Circuit Court for the Third Judicial Court of Madison County, Illinois.

Background of Asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral that used to be popular for commercial purposes such as electrical or building insulation, as well as countless others. However, the material is now known to be hazardous, and regulations regarding the use of asbestos have been in place for decades. Asbestos exposure can cause several serious health problems, including mesothelioma cancer.

In many cases, malignant mesothelioma can take decades for symptoms to appear, so it is often diagnosed when it has reached its later and more dangerous stage of development. Even though the use of asbestos has been heavily regulated in the last few decades, this delay means that those exposed to asbestos decades ago are only now being diagnosed with life-threatening cancer.
