Dozens of Women File New Essure Birth Control LawsuitA group of nearly forty women have filed another Essure birth control lawsuit against Bayer Healthcare over a slew of side effects, alleging that the pharmaceutical giant failed to give adequate warning about the risks.

The lawsuit was filed by women from all across the country, each alleging they were implanted with the Essure birth control device from Bayer. According to the Essure birth control lawsuit, however, these women eventually began suffering from serious side effects after device implantation.

The Essure birth control lawsuit alleges that these side effects are caused by a number of device defects.

Many of the plaintiffs involved in this lawsuit say they experienced similar side effects of Essure, including menstrual pain, abdominal pain, back pain, heavy bleeding, as well as depression and fatigue symptoms. Some plaintiffs also experienced nausea, vomiting, migraines, difficulty breathing, numbness, pain during intercourse,

The Essure birth control lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including strict liability, failure to warn, fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment, and negligence, among others.

The Essure birth control lawsuit was filed on April 18, 2018 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

This is not the first Essure birth control lawsuit to be filed over device complications. A growing number of women like those included in this lawsuit are coming forward with allegations of serious Essure side effects, claiming that Bayer either knew or should have known, but failed to warn, of these risks.

Basics of Essure

The popular Essure birth control device was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002. So far, around 750,000 women have been implanted with the Essure device.

The Essure system is made up of two metal coils lined with a thin fabric. In an outpatient procedure, the metal coils are placed in a woman’s fallopian tubes. After the initial procedure, it takes a few months for the coils to become effective. Time is required for the coils to expand and for the surrounding tissue to grow in around them, completely blocking the fallopian tubes and preventing pregnancy.

Side Effects of Essure

Thousands of women have reported serious side effects of Essure since the device’s approval. Major side effects connected with Essure include implant failure, device migration, organ perforation, device fracture, and ectopic pregnancy, any of which can be quite serious and have dangerous and lasting effects. Some patients who suffer from these kinds of complications require removal surgery, but removal surgery can carry its own risks.

Filing an Essure Birth Control Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has suffered from side effects of Essure, you may be able to file an Essure birth control lawsuit against Bayer. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by side effects of Essure, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.

The Essure Birth Control Lawsuit is Case No. 1:18-cv-01185-WTL-MJD, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

In general, Essure lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
