internet speed not as advertisedInternet service provider, Consolidated Communications, has been receiving hundreds of customer complaints about their “premium high speed” internet service.

Consumers say that Consolidated Communications advertised their internet speed and services as higher and better than they actually delivered. Consumers who purchased their “premium high speed” connection say that the service is very slow, 1Mbps or less.

Consolidated Communications’ ‘High Speed’ Internet Promise

Consolidated Communications is a nationwide internet service provider that also services the Lake Conroe and Corpus Christi areas of East Texas. They recently began advertising their “new and enhanced” internet services.

“We’re committed to making this transition a seamless experience,” the company’s website states.

However, over 100 customers have submitted complaints about Consolidated Communications, according to a consumer review website. The internet speeds advertised by the company do not materialize, customers say. Further, Consolidated Communications fails to provide customer service and support when consumers ask for help, they add.

Many consumer complaints point to the supposed upgrades that Consolidated Communications touted in advertising as bringing faster internet service to the rural area.

“Completely useless customer service unless you have a rep in front of you,” reads one customer review. “Do not get anywhere near advertised and paid for speed. Speeds are not consistent at all.”

Consumers also say that the pricing is inconsistent and they have been told by customer service representatives that they cannot get out of contracts with Consolidated Communications without paying hundreds of dollars.

According to Consolidated Communication’s website, residential service plans range from $20 to $75 per month for internet speeds ranging from 3Mbps up to 1Gbps. The company also offers 24/7 premium tech support for a separate fee of nearly $15 a month.

“No other home Internet service providers in Montgomery County can offer the value we do, by offering the perfect combination of home Internet service speed and affordable prices, plus friendly, local customer service and support,” the website states.

Customers say that Consolidated Communications consistently fails to provide the internet speeds they advertise. Coupled with poor customer service, consumers are fed up and have submitted hundreds of complaints online.

“It is absolutely preposterous,” writes another consumer who includes a screenshot showing Mbps between 4 and 8. “Paying for 10 Mb[p]s but getting screwed.”

Another consumer said in an online review that when he contacted Consolidated Communication’s customer support about slow internet speeds, he was told the company only needed to provide 80 percent of the speed they advertised.

“So this is a company that makes an offer of a speed with NO intention of meeting that speed and have the unmitigated gall to hide behind the ‘we never promised anything more than 80% of our advertised speed,’ but we never told you that until you call to get what you are supposedly paying for,” another consumer states in an online complaint.

Unfortunately, rural residents, such as those serviced by Consolidated Communications in East Texas, often only have one choice for communication service providers. Customers of Consolidated Communications say that they are consistently not getting the internet speeds they were promised, but they have no other provider to turn to.

“I live in a ‘regulated’ area…so I have no choice,” one consumer notes.
