Intel processor CPU defect computerA California woman has filed a class action lawsuit against Intel Corporation claiming the Intel CPU defect has significantly affected her computer.

Plaintiff Louisa Ferrer lives in Santa Cruz, Calif. According to her Intel CPU defect class action lawsuit, she bought a laptop that had a sixth generation Intel i7 chip. She bought this laptop from Amazon in May 2016.

She claims that she wanted to buy a fast computer because she needed to use it for video editing. However, her computer, she claims, has lost speed and has significantly slowed after a Windows update in January 2018.

The Intel CPU Defect

The Intel Corporation dominates the world market when it comes to computer chips. According to this Intel CPU defect class action lawsuit, Intel makes nine in 10 of the computer processors in the world and nearly all (99%) of the server chips in the data centers that control the Internet.

Almost all people who own any modern electronics such as cell phones, computers, tablets and others, own something that has an Intel chip.

When Intel recently revealed that their chips have an Intel CPU defect, it was met with alarm. Soon after they revealed these two major security flaws, they released a patch that would supposedly protect against the Intel CPU defect security vulnerabilities.

But this patch, when installed, may cause a host of problems in the computer. Computers often reboot spontaneously or shut off without warning. Also, the performance of computers with the Intel CPU defect patch is often slowed down greatly.

Allegedly, Intel knew about these problems as far back as June 2017 but didn’t made it public until January 2018. The Intel CPU defect security problems open up the computer to serious vulnerabilities, but customers were not aware for a long time after Intel knew.

What makes this narrative even more alarming is that one month before Intel actually made their public statement regarding the Intel CPU defect, their CEO, Brian Krzanich sold almost $40 million in Intel stocks and options.

Ferrer’s Intel CPU defect class action lawsuit claims that “Intel has built its reputation in the chip market on two factors: security and speed. Meltdown and Spectre challenge both. As a result, Plaintiff and Class members are left with devices that are either slower or substantially more vulnerable than they bargained for.”

Meltdown and Spectre are the names of the two major Intel CPU defect security flaws. Meltdown, one of the security flaws, affects all Intel processers that have been made in the last 23 years. Someone seeking to exploit the Meltdown vulnerability can expose sensitive information from an application to the outside. Spectre is even more difficult to fix than Meltdown.

Ferrer claims that had she known of the Intel CPU defect, she would have never purchased such a computer system. She claims both vulnerabilities are problems that Intel should have made public as soon as they were aware of the Intel CPU defect.

This Intel CPU Defect Class Action Lawsuit is Louisa Ferrer v. Intel Corporation and is Case No. 5:18-cv-00799 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division.

I was not told of this problem my pc runs slower and my games are not up to speed. I called intel ask for a refund or a fix I was refused . PS: if their is a class action I would like to be added.

First of all, this is a discussion forum, and is not affiliated with the class action lawyers or the administrators. They do not see what you post here. Secondly, the winners will be the lawyers, and the administrators. The consumer is the one who gains the least in a class action.
