asbestos lung cancer doctor chest x-rayA Pennsylvania woman has filed an asbestos lawsuit on behalf of her late husband, alleging he was exposed to aircraft asbestos during his time with the U.S. Navy as a laborer.

The plaintiff, Jane F., filed the aircraft asbestos lawsuit after her late husband Brian’s death in 2015. Brian left behind his wife and two children.

During the course of his career, Brian worked at a number of different companies in various labor positions, including as an aviation mechanic and recruiter in the U.S. Navy from 1981 to 1996. During his time with the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS John F. Kennedy and at the Bermuda Naval Air Station, Brian was exposed to dangerous aircraft asbestos, Jane alleges, leading to his diagnosis with asbestos mesothelioma and, ultimately, to his death.

According to the lawsuit, Brian was routinely exposed to aircraft asbestos particles during his work with the U.S. Navy. Airplane engines manufactured by Avco, the lawsuit notes, were designed to contain asbestos. Replacement parts for these engines were also made with asbestos. In the course of his work, Brian was regularly surrounded by aircraft asbestos fibers from products made by each of the defendants, placing him at serious risk of asbestos injuries.

The lawsuit alleges that not only did these companies fail to warn or protect against the risks of aircraft asbestos, they went so far as to actively suppress information about the hazards of asbestos.

Jane filed the aircraft asbestos lawsuit on multiple counts, including negligence, strict liability, and breach of warranty, among several others.

Background of Asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that used to be popular for commercial purposes such as electrical or building insulation, as well as countless others. However, the material is now well-known to be hazardous.

The microscopic fibers of asbestos can accumulate in a person’s lungs via the air, attacking the lining of the lungs, and then quickly spreading to distant organs. Asbestos exposure can cause several serious health problems, the worst of which is mesothelioma cancer.

In many cases, mesothelioma can take decades to develop, so it is often diagnosed at a late stage of development when it has reached a later and more dangerous stage of development.

Filing a Lawsuit Over Asbestos Exposure

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with or died from an asbestos-related disease like mesothelioma cancer after exposure to asbestos or asbestos products, you may be able to file a mesothelioma lawsuit or seek a mesothelioma damage award.

Filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of cancer like mesothelioma, or bring a loved one back to life, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical bills and lost wages.

The Aircraft Asbestos Mesothelioma Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-00315-ER, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
