electric pressure cooker explosions burnsA California couple recently filed an Elite Bistro pressure cooker lawsuit over a defect they allege led to an explosion that caused serious burns.

The couple, plaintiffs Gene and Bridget I., purchased an Elite Bistro 8-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker from Kohl’s. Bridget says she was making chicken stock using the pressure cooker when she noticed a great deal of steam coming from the device. Suddenly, it exploded. The explosion sent hot water and steam shooting out at Bridget, leaving her with second- and third-degree burns on her skin according to the complaint.

In response, Bridget and her husband Gene filed this Elite Bistro pressure cooker lawsuit against the product’s manufacturer, Maxi-Matic, alleging the product was defective and dangerous. According to their Elite Bistro pressure cooker lawsuit, the company failed to warn consumers about the potential risk associated with the pressure cooker.

This is not the first report of such explosive side effects. Several other consumers have come forward with reports of severe burns from the Maxi-Matic Elite Bistro Pressure Cooker exploding. For instance, a 61-year-old woman reported suffering from severe burns on her face from a similar explosion in June 2014.

Another report, this one from October 2016, reported property damage in a kitchen. Luckily, in this case, family members were not near the pressure cooker when it exploded.

The Elite Bistro pressure cooker lawsuit notes that these products have not yet been recalled, despite reports of other situations like what happened to Bridget.

These reports have sparked a pressure cooker class action lawsuit investigation looking into defects and injuries linked with these devices. Potential plaintiffs are those who purchased an 8-Quart Elite Bistro Pressure Cooker from Maxi-Matic from the Home Shopping Network in either 2014 or 2015.

Other pressure cooker manufacturers have also been added to the investigation, including:

  • Aldi
  • Crofton
  • Cuisinart
  • Other Max-Matic pressure cookers
  • Tristar
  • Wolfgang Puck
  • Others

Reports of Pressure Cooker Defects

Complaints over pressure cooker explosions claim that their pressure cooker lid suddenly blew off, projecting boiling hot food and liquid onto their skin. While it is clear that these devices are highly pressurized, given their name, consumers have reported explosions even after depressurizing the device per instructions.

Consumers have reported suffering from not just explosions with boiling-hot food and liquid, but also steam-related burns. Some complaints note the device allowed extremely hot steam to escape, causing burns.

Filing an Elite Bistro Pressure Cooker Lawsuit

Several pressure cooker lawsuits have already been filed over explosions, burns, and other defects against a number of companies, including Wolfgang Puck, Tristar, and Maxi-Matic.

Pressure cooker lawsuits allege that various pressure cooker manufacturers failed to adequately warn customers about the risk of pressure cooker burns, placing customers at serious risk.

If you have suffered from pressure cooker burns after using an Elite Bistro Pressure Cooker device or from one of these other manufacturers, you may be able to file a pressure cooker lawsuit. While an Elite Bistro pressure cooker lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by pressure cooker burns, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
