A growing number of Xarelto bleeding deaths are causing some family members to file claims against the drug’s manufacturer, Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
A new Xarelto bleeding deaths lawsuit was filed on Nov. 1 by plaintiff Judy D. on behalf of her late mother, Mary B. Mary was an Alabama resident who used Xarelto from February 2013 through November 2015 at the direction of her doctor.
However, according to the lawsuit, Mary began to suffer from severe adverse bleeding complications on Nov. 12, 2015. Unfortunately, these complications ultimately led to Mary’s death on Dec. 4, 2015.
After her mother’s untimely death, Judy came forward with allegations against Janssen.
This lawsuit is a part of a larger MDL, or multidistrict litigation, which consists of a large number of lawsuits filed over Xarelto bleeding deaths and other severe complications of Xarelto.
Judy filed her Xarelto bleeding deaths lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including strict liability, manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, fraud, and wrongful death.
Xarelto Fatal Bleeding Complications
Xarelto (also sold under its generic name, rivaroxaban) was introduced as a relatively new anticoagulant option in 2011, after its approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Xarelto and other anticoagulant medications are used to reduce blood clotting and related issues like stroke and systemic embolism.
Though Xarelto has rapidly increased in popularity since its introduction to the market only a few years ago, more and more evidence points to a link between Xarelto and major bleeding adverse events, including Xarelto bleeding deaths.
Studies referenced in this and other Xarelto lawsuits indicate that Xarelto had a significantly higher rate of life-threatening bleeding complications than other drugs.
Xarelto bleeding lawsuits claim that Janssen not only knew of these studies and the serious risks of their drug, including the potential for Xarelto bleeding deaths, but failed to adequately warn consumers and the medical community about these dangers.
Filing a Lawsuit Over Xarelto Bleeding Deaths and Injuries
Xarelto is currently facing hundreds of Xarelto lawsuits filed by or on behalf of patients who, after taking Xarelto, have experienced gastrointestinal bleeding, brain hemorrhaging, or other adverse events, including Xarelto bleeding deaths.
These Xarelto lawsuits claim that the drug makers failed to adequately warn both patients and the medical community about the serious risks linked with Xarelto, including Xarelto bleeding deaths and other major injuries.
If you or someone you love has experienced Xarelto side effects such as Xarelto life-threatening bleeding, you may be able to file Xarelto bleeding side effects lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot reverse the pain and suffering caused by these side effects, or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical costs, lost wages, and other expenses.
The Xarelto Bleeding Deaths Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-11636-EEF-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
