A settlement has been proposed in a class action lawsuit alleging magazine publishers American Media Inc. and Odyssey Magazine Publishing Group Inc. violated Michigan law by disclosing customers’ subscription information to third parties.
If you had a Michigan street address and subscribed to an Odyssey Magazine or American Media magazine between April 14, 2010 and July 31, 2016, you may be entitled to benefits from the magazine privacy class action settlement.
American Media and Odyssey magazine publications include Country Weekly, Fit Pregnancy, Flex, Globe, Men’s Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Muscle & Fitness Hers, National Enquirer, National Examiner, Natural Health, OK!, Radar, Shape, Soap Opera Digest, and Star.
According to the Michigan magazine privacy class action lawsuit, American Media and Odyssey Magazine violated Michigan’s Preservation of Personal Privacy Act by disclosing information about magazine subscription holders to third parties without the subscribers’ consent.
American Media and Odyssey Magazine deny they violated the law but they have agreed to settle the magazine subscription privacy class action lawsuit to avoid the uncertainty and expense associated with ongoing litigation.
In addition to providing cash payments to eligible Class Members who file timely and valid claims, the defendants have also agreed not to disclose any of their Michigan customers’ subscription information to third-party companies without the prior express written consent of the subscribers.
The Michigan magazine subscription privacy class action settlement was preliminarily approved on June 8, 2017.
Approximately 415,000 consumers qualify for benefits under the proposed Michigan magazine privacy class action settlement.

I received a $105.03 check today to be paid to my old business name.My salon closed in 2019. Since I forwarded all of my mail and subscriptions to my personal address, my salon name was not changed. My bank would like like Magazine Subscriber Privacy Settlement Administrator to cancel the business name check and resubmit my personal name as restitution for the settlement check
