The class action settlement resolves allegations that BetterBody Food & Nutrition LLC made misleading statements on its Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and Naturally Refined Coconut Oil that would lead consumers to believe the products are healthier than they actually are.

A class action lawsuit challenged the following label claims:

  • “One of the healthiest oils in the world”
  • “A Healthy Alternative to Butter & Cooking Oil”
  • “Zero Transfat”
  • “Full of MCTs, aka good fats, coconut oil is an immediate source of energy”
  • “cholesterol free”

BetterBody agreed to pay $1 million to Class Members as well as remove the label claims challenged in this class action lawsuit.

Class Members included “All persons who, between January 1, 2013 and November 18, 2016, purchased, for personal or household use, and not for resale or distribution purposes, BetterBody’s Extra Virgin Coconut Oil or Refined Coconut Oil.”

The deadline to file a claim for the BetterBody Coconut Oil class action settlement passed on Jan. 20, 2017.
