Suzuki Settles Class Action Lawsuit Over GSX-R1000 Frame Defects

By Sarah Pierce

A final settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against Suzuki Motor Corps. that claims 2005 and 2006 Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycles have a frame defect that cause the fame to crack and fail “catastrophically.” The lawsuit, unfortunately, was filed because a man was rendered quadriplegic due to his frame breaking.

Because of the class action lawsuit, Suzuki recalled its R1000 models for frame testing and offered to reinforce the frames with a brace in January 2009.

If you owned or leased a qualifying Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle between August 13, 2008 and February 5, 2010, you are eligible for a $500 credit toward the purchase of a new Suzuki motorcycle, or a $40 credit toward parts, accessories or service of an existing Suzuki motorcycle. Under the class action settlement, Suzuki has also agreed to extend its frame warranty to 10 years after the recall date. More than 26,000 Suzuki owners qualify.

For more information about this class action settlement and to download a claim form. The deadline to file a claim is June 26, 2010.

Hello, in September 2006, my father lost his life while riding his 2005 Suzuki GSXR1000 in a fatal crash. He was making a left turn and was unable to gear to the right as the handle bar steering locked. He was going the speed limit and still could not get back over. He was hit head on resulting to him to be ejected from the bike and the bike bursted into flames. He suffered traumatic injuries and lost his life 30 minutes after the accident. I recently looked into his death reports and police statements almost 15 years later and am wondering if there has been a recall on the model or anything that has been reported in this similar situation. Thank you in advance.

Hi! I was wondering if you knew of a suit for the gsxr 1000 in the late 90’s? We had on around 96 or 97. The front forks broke amd we wrecked. To this day I still struggle with activities. The dealership said that they sold 7 and out of the 7, 5 had wrecked and we were number 6.

This October I will see a neurosurgeon to determine if I need surgery from this accident.

I am wondering if others have had an accident on theirs? Ours only had a fee hundred miles on it.

There was a settlement with Suzuki involving the GSX-R1000 Frame Defects. The law firm was Winston, Wiggins, & Clark in Fort Lauderdale, FL..Google them and contact them for details..I am a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who was close friends with Alexander Clark, one of the attorneys.
