A New Jersey couple is filing legal action against AECOM and their affiliates for allegedly exposing the injured plaintiff to asbestos-containing products.
Plaintiff couple William B. and Diane B. are filing this asbestos lung cancer lawsuit after William was diagnosed with mesothelioma. This rare variation of lung cancer is specifically caused by asbestos exposure, in which the fibers become lodged in the mucus lining of the lungs.
The husband reportedly developed the devastating disease as a result of having been being exposed daily to asbestos-containing products.
Overview of Asbestos Lung Cancer Lawsuit
According to the asbestos lung cancer lawsuit, William B. worked a number of jobs through the course of his life where he reportedly worked with asbestos-containing products on a daily basis including:
- Boilermakers as a boilermaker from May 1, 1951 to Sept. 1, 1955
- US Steel as a laborer from May 8, 1955 to Aug. 3, 1958
- Various employers as laborer from Aug. 9, 1958 to Sept. 5, 1961
- Local 401 Iron workers as an iron worker from Sept. 10, 1961 to Aug. 1, 1966
- Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as boilermaker, production shop owner, and ship system inspector from Aug. 10, 1966 to March 1, 1997
Before the 1980s, asbestos was commonly used for different construction and insulation projects for its fire and chemical resistant qualities. Most popularly, asbestos was implemented in US Navy shipyards, boiler rooms, and other manufacturing applications.
However, the number of retired machine workers, veterans, and laborers raised concern over potential asbestos health complications. According to the asbestos lung cancer lawsuit, William worked with asbestos-containing products on a daily basis for over 30 years.
While William did smoke from 1951 to 2003, mesothelioma is specifically linked to asbestos exposure. William was diagnosed with the disease on April 8, 2016 and has since contended with the condition.
Often, mesothelioma takes decades to progress to a stage where symptoms can be exhibited, often resulting in late diagnosis. When diagnosed at a later stage, the asbestos fibers will have typically done significant damage to the lung’s mucus lining.
The life expectancy of patients is significantly shortened, with little treatment options available. William and Diane are filing legal action against AECOM for providing his different employers with the allegedly asbestos-containing products, which ultimately resulted in his mesothelioma.
William and Diane are filing this asbestos lung cancer lawsuit claiming that the company directly contributed to his mesothelioma diagnosis. They are seeking damages for all medical expenses, along with any other applicable damages.
The Asbestos Lung Cancer Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-01072-ER, in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County.
